COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A bit of backwoods pleasure without the banjo. This strong stout is brewed with a hint of coffee and vanilla then aged in oak bourbon barrels. Our process ensures that strong bourbon undertones come through in the finish in every batch we brew. We recommend decanting at room temperature and best enjoyed in a brandy snifter.

#100. Been saving these for the right time, might as well do it at 100. 09 bottle and will do the 08 in a couple days. Pours a pitch thick black with very thin brown creamy head. Aroma is as advertised, tons of coffee, chocolate, and bourbon, hints of vanilla, wood, and smokiness. Flavor at first had me worried, it was quite strong and almost overbearing. Next sips eased that worry and it became very delicious. Everything in the aroma came out in the taste, with the addition of dried fruits, bitter sweetness, roasted malt, with a bit of a sour/earthy finish. Definitely the most complex beer I have tried to date.

330ml bottle served in a snifter glass. A: Pours a deep opaque oily black color forming a small but creamy beige head with medium retention that leaves some spotty and molasses lacings in the glass S: The smell is just perfect. Sweet and molasses. Delicious roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, bourbon and oak. The smell of oak is absolutely delicious. I’ve gave 5, but I would give it 10 if I could! :p T: Sweet and roasted upfront. Strong notes of roasted malts, candy sugar, caramel, bourbon, oak, vanilla, chocolate and coffee. Strong and delicious roast bitterness in the end. Alcohol is well hidden M: Heavy, dense, creamy and molasses body. Medium to low carbonation. Complex sweet and roasted aftertaste O: Excellent drinkability. Masterpiece [ BA Review @ 9/20/2013 ]

This smells as good as the original. Unfortunately, here ceases the comparison to me, the barrel-aging gave it a tartness I’m not a fan of. Whisky, dark fruits and oatmeal all work well enough, but roasted acidity and vinous cereals are not a perfect match.

On tap at Rattle N Hum, New York, NY. A dark brown/black coloured pour with a thin beige head on top. Sweet, malty, coffee, chocolate aroma. Tastes similar, slightly sweet, malty, coffee, chocolate, vanilla, rich, smooth and utterly delicious. Great Imperial stout from Founders, so glad to find it on tap in New York City.

Sampled at the Extreme Beer Fest. Pours a pitch black color. Great aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and coffee with a bourbon feeling. Great flavor of roasted and biscuity malt, coffee and chocolate, there’s also a bourbon feeling. Full body, liquorous texture. I can’t say I like it better than regular breakfast stout but it is as good, which is very good.

Sample at SBWF 2014. Black with a medium tan head. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla, some bourbon, coffee and light dark fruit. Taste of chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, coffee and some light dark fruit. Really smooth and nicely drinkable. Very well balanced, what a great beer! Well worth the hype. I am glad that I finally got the chance to try this one.

Sample at XBF: The Lure: Decadent coffee and vanilla cream, dry roastiness and bathing oatmeal cookies are sensually laced together. The Festivities: Ferocious oaky vinosity somewhat mars the rich vanilla and coffee beans, but the roasted malt bitterness sure gives it a run for its money. Thinner-bodied than its coffee imperial stout counterparts (Speedway and Péché Mortel) and not as satisfying as their regular Breakfast Stout, for me. Still, one of the highlights of the festival, an inspiring creation I wish to have again in full-bottle format.
