Commercial Description:
A bit of backwoods pleasure without the banjo. This strong stout is brewed with a hint of coffee and vanilla then aged in oak bourbon barrels. Our process ensures that strong bourbon undertones come through in the finish in every batch we brew. We recommend decanting at room temperature and best enjoyed in a brandy snifter.

12oz Bottle - Trade - Pantanap
Aroma – Big whiskey and stout aroma. Dark malts, tons of whiskey, coffee and chocolate aromas.
Appearance – Dark black in color with a thin stout head.
Flavor – Awesome flavors, the whiskey was just enough to make this a truly awesome beer. One of the best . Loved the flavors and the Coffee, chocolate and dark malts all came through on this one.
Palate – Great whiskey Mouthfeel, awesome stout texture with a nice dry finish.
Overall – This is one of the best beers I have ever had. The flavors where just over the top. How can they make such a truly awesome beer. The whiskey was perfect in this beer. Great Job Founders Brewing.

On draft at Monk’s. Pours jet black, small mocha head. Rich bitter chocolate and coffee aroma, vanilla and bourbon. Unfortunately, flavor is very boozy with a bit too much bourbon. I may be in the minority, but this is my least favorite of the three (Canadian, regular, then Kentucky).

12 oz bottle: pours jet black with a small cinnamon colored head. Aroma is strong of coffee with hints of chocolate, oak and vanilla. Flavor is coffee, chocolate, vanilla, and caramel. The bourbon flavor is nicely integrated. This beer has a nice long finish. Some stouts seems to have a bitter, astringent finish, while this beer has a nice mellow mocha/milk chocolatey finish. The 11.2% is well hidden. To me this is a dangerously drinkable beer.

Really ashy in the aroma. It’s weird how a lot of coffee stouts get this aroma. Real coffee never smells this way. The flavor remains ashy. This one isn’t as tasty as I hoped.

Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has roasted malty coffee aroma with hints of chocolate and some hints of vanilla. Roasted malty chocolate and coffee flavor with some hints of bourbon and vanilla. Has a rosted malty coffee finish with hint of bourbon and vanilla in the aftertaste.

Nitro-tap @ Founders. 8oz pour into snifter. A - A silky black with a fluffy head with a tight tan color. Super sticky, lots of lacing along the edge of the snifter. The head does not disipitate at all, it just hangs around. S - Chocolate covered coffee beans, bourbon, caramel. T - Milk chocolate, bourbon, slight bitterness, coffee beans. I would smack my lips together over and over after every taste, so good! M - Smooth, creamy, soft, medium-full bodied but not overly so, just right. Very little fizzy carbonation, perfect. D - So easy, so scary! I didn’t think KBS could get better but out of the nitro-tap, it is! Serving type: nitro-tap

bottle, 2008 vintage, pours black with a dark tan head; good lacing. Aroma is chocolate and bourbon with a roasted malt and oat note. Nice roasted malt and bourbon flavors with some coffee and bakers chocolate. Mellow mouthfeel with little to no alcohol presence. Awesome barrel aged brew!

Hugely dark pour with a minimal head. Aroma is a knockout with bourbon, chocolate, and smoked woody notes. Flavor brings in sweet dates, oaky hints, and a bit of roasted coffee beans. Finally, ’coffee’ done right, not overpowering. The malted milk flavors are amazing, and the coffee aspects have given way to the bourbon notes. A bit of age has done wonders here. Fantastic brew.

Tap at Ashley’s in Ann Arbor, Awesome beer - this one on tap is phenomenal. There was little head, and a deep dark mean look. The flavor and palate stick with you and its not too sweet to enjoy over a few pints. This is one of the best stouts - easy hands down.
