NYMojoMan (12), Arden, North Carolina, USA Dec 7, 2006 Updated: Jul 29, 2007 This is a beer that makes itself want to rerate every other beer. I had this at a tasting in Atlanta. Slightly chilled from Room temp in a Three Philosophers Snifter WOW is all I say! Stout color is there with little head. At 10 % The Trolls in the Stout barrels release flavors unknown to any other stout. I;ve had the breakfast stout and I know this sounds crazy but the vanilla bean coffee, chocolate fades into a Bourbon Frappucino. Thats What I taste. I am a brewer and Have made imperial stouts that blow my mind but I have no clue how this is done. All i have to say is Best american beer ever for me now.!!!!
Slipstream (482), USA Jan 2, 2009 Blackest pour ever. Nice old timey label. Aroma of cereal, bourbon, and coffee. Potent and complex taste, dominated by coffee. The different flavors blend together well. Bourbon, sugar, coffee, and grains. A powerful and flavorful brew that earns its very high rating. ditmier (340), Boise, Idaho, USA Jan 1, 2009 2008 Bottle - First beer of the new year (and for breakfast to boot) - Thanks buckybeer- Pours thick black with a medium brown head...aroma is oak, cacao and molassas malt...flavour throws it all out on the table, nothing hidden, bourbon, coffee, vanilla oak...finish is char bitter, not hop bitter...a lot of flavour but still not too complex, just an easy drinking winner... oldno7 (132), Spokane, Washington, USA Jan 1, 2009 (12oz bottle aged 1 year)
Wow.
Pours blacker than the darkest motor oil, with a thin brown head. Aroma smells like freshly ground coffee beans, bourbon and vanilla. Flavor has notes of coffee, chocolate, malts, bourbon, chalk and burnt wood. This beer is one of the most unique imperials that I have had. By that I mean: aroma, flavors, extremely smooth/creamy palate.
Couldnt even detect the 10% alc.
OUTSTANDING !! dogfish120love (127), west hartford, Connecticut, USA Dec 22, 2008 Pours pitch black with little head. smell is somewhat boozy somewhat chalky with aroma of whiskey and heavy on coffee grounds. Flavor has a black cofee taste, you can really taste the fact that it was aaged in whiskey barrels. KAggie97 (2076), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA Dec 20, 2008 Bottle from MaltOMeal at the December Houston tasting. Thanks! Pours deep black with a thin body and an aroma of used coffee grounds with a hint of bourbon oak. Flavor is bourbon-infused coffee, oak, and light caramel. Full mouthfeel. Nice, nice beer.
