BigBastard (669), L.A., California, USA Jul 5, 2006 Pours pure black like used motor oil, with little to no head. HUGE coffee, bakers chocolate and vanilla flavors. So smooth that the ABV was all but lost except for the warming glow. Delicious. Odeed (1481), Bakersfield, California, USA Apr 6, 2006 Updated: Jun 6, 2006(first off many thanks ti sliffy for the hookup.)i have been waiting to try this brew for ages now,i guess today is the day!this b.a. stout poured a thick motor oil black with a nice, but small dark brown head.as the head sat it left nice dark webbing on the glass.i then held the snifter up to my nose and could not believe what i recieved.the first wave of aroma was,you guessed it,coffee!the second wave was a lovely blend of bourbon and oak,not overpowering, but just right.the third was a mix of dark and milk chcoolate.then the fourth was a blend of oatmeal, roasted malts, and black liquorice.ok now after smelling it for ten minutes, ill take the fisrt sip.WOW!the numerous levels of taste hit my palate so fast it was hard to even catch them all.after a few more sips i picked up on what my brain was telling me was absolute bliss, and what made it that way.coffee, chocolate covered raspberries, bourbon, oak, vanilla, milk chocolate, alcohol, black liquorice, and roasted malts all smacked me across the face every time i took a sip.is this beer prefect?i would say YES!its right up at the top with speedway stout to me and my only complaint that i have is that i only have another bottle.
SECOND BOTTLE ON 6-6-06 BY WAY OF NEWCASTLE01.would i still give this a perfect rating?HELL YEAH!i still cant get over how good this beer is.and i still have one more bottle. NYMojoMan (12), Arden, North Carolina, USA Dec 7, 2006 Updated: Jul 29, 2007This is a beer that makes itself want to rerate every other beer. I had this at a tasting in Atlanta. Slightly chilled from Room temp in a Three Philosophers Snifter WOW is all I say! Stout color is there with little head. At 10 % The Trolls in the Stout barrels release flavors unknown to any other stout. I;ve had the breakfast stout and I know this sounds crazy but the vanilla bean coffee, chocolate fades into a Bourbon Frappucino. Thats What I taste. I am a brewer and Have made imperial stouts that blow my mind but I have no clue how this is done. All i have to say is Best american beer ever for me now.!!!! GrbDg (301), Avon Lake, Ohio, USA Mar 23, 2007 Bottle, my first "Perfect 5" rating. This stuff was FREAKING AWESOME. Poured pitch black with huge dark brown head. Aromas of chocolate and roasted grain with a slight alcohol/bourbon note. I could sit and smell this for hours. First sip is creamy and dense with loads of complexity. Coffee, caramel, bitter hops, chocolate covered dried cherries, just so much going on. Great mouthfeel, full bodied and very viscious. Ohhh this stuff is great. And I thought regular Breakfast Stout was good...I had no idea. lovemyipas (420), sw burbs, Illinois, USA Mar 25, 2008 pours a thick used motor oil black with a nice looking and huge two finger fluffy black brown head. aroma is bourbon, sweet chocolate, and some coffee. has a heavy body with great lacing and a bit of carbonation. flavor is the same as aroma but stronger, and in the aftertaste the chocolate is more bitter bakers chocolate and cocoa powder. has a little dry aftertaste and the 10% abv is well hidden. a superb stout!! it is somewhat oily and creamy on the palate and is a little sticky on the fingers and lips. every flavor sticks to the tongue for a while and as it warms a little more the aroma does get stronger. i could only drink one of these in one sitting though.
