On tap at Founders Brewpub. Clear copper with a thin off-white head. Aroma of toffee, sticky malt and toasted malt. Taste of toffee, sweet malt, mild noble hops and a bit of pale malt. Pretty much a muted dirty bastard.

Draft sample. Poured dark clear reddish color with an creamy off-white head that lasted with excellent lacing. Solid complex sweet earthy malt aroma. Medium to full body with a sticky smooth texture and soft carbonation. Solid well balanced toasted sweet malt flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate duration. Very good complex brew.

Growler: The aroma consists of lots of caramel, toffee, and faint chocolate. It pours a dark slightly hazy amber with a two finger off-white head. The flavor starts with toffee and caramel. The finish has some toasty and earthy notes. Itís medium bodied with soft carbonation and mouthfeel.

12 oz pour on tap at the brewpub (Founders, MI). Pours a rich brownish pour, striking orange auburn glowing edges, no real haze, the body is just darker, with a frothy tannish head atop. Dies to a ring, laces small. Aromas are a dusting of cocoa, toast, and carmelized malts. Gentle toffee, some mellow dry earthy hops, faint vanilla. A touch of peat, but sweeter and toasty. Initial is lighter bodied, offering a touch of sweetness, caramel and toast, general bready quality, mellow biscuit and faint cocoa. Some vanilla, smooth with a gentle spice and mellow peaty quality, earth comes into the fold as we get into the middle, more toast and biscuits. Mellow, quite drinkable, lacking that touch of body and girth from the sweetness. Finish is mellow, crisp, gentle. Nice smaller version, albeit at 5.4, lacking a little life and body.

Maroon body with no head. Thing body that just ends. Donít know what really happens. Little bit of caramel that doesnít impart that much taste.
