Draft at the brewpub. Mid brown, hazy, and red. A thick one finger head is funky off white. This smells like a dessert. So sweet and so fruity. The feel is thick and richly smooth. Strawberries are tasted with ice cream. Sweet cherries, too. The finish was a very different kind of bitterness. It is kind of like what orange peel would do. Perhaps it is the raspberries. Completely unexpected here but really tasty. This one is good and like a Dairy Queen treat, Founders style.

On tap at the brewery, served in a tasting glass. Pours hazy reddish amber with a moderate white head. The head remains and leaves a moderate amount of fine lace. On the nose, there are big aromas of fruit and berries, along with sweet toasted malts and just a hint of hops. The flavour has a huge fruity sweetness, with raspberry, grapes and apple, along with caramel and a hint of hops. The finish is long, with caramel, toasty malts, fruit and berries. On the palate, it is medium-full with a smooth, creamy texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a nice fruity ale, but a bit too sweet and fruity for my taste. 2011-08-16

Sample at Founders. I never did figure out what fruit it was. But it was very fruity, like a children’s cereal of some kind. Definitely could not do a whole pint of this stuff. Worth trying to see if you can solve the mystery, but my god there’s so much better stuff to try.

On nitro-tap at Founders last weekend. Served in a pint glass. Pours a reddish-copper color and is slightly hazed. Frothy off-white head sits around for a bit and leaves some good lacing. The nose starts out with quite a bit of bourbon. Beneath that is cherry, raspberry, and miscellaneous fruit. Taste is more dominated by the bourbon, but also has a light sweetness and tartness from the fruit. Chewy body with bourbon throughout. Really nice and interesting. Not as good as the NG R&D Kriek, but a good concept that I’d like to see more of.

Draft at Founders taproom. Pours a dark cloudy cider/cranberry color. Large frothy white head with excellent retention. Lots of lacing. Hearty aroma of bourbon and cherries. Flavor of bourbon and dark fruit. Was looking for something different and this definitely fit the bill. Wouldn’t normally rate a fruity beer this highly, but I really respected the heartiness of this.

On tap at the Founders brewpub. Pours a reddish orange. Borderline cloyingly sweet aroma, various berries, powdered sugar. Flavor is muddled, messy amalgam of fruit and alcohol. This is just weird sweet mess. Thin mouthfeel, heavy booze. Not an enjoyable experience.

tap at founders. a delicious one at that. nitro pour. and extremely hazy, orange-red body with thick creamy head. massive aroma of berry, guava, and some cherry. has a subtle vanilla, lactic component to it as well. upon taking i sip, i believe i know why i noticed that. i believe it has been aged in their famous maple/bourbon barrels! a delicate maple, caramel aspect with added vanilla and slight booze finish off the largely sweet and tart berry medley...the berry seems to be a raspberry and over-ripe strawberry feel to it. very interesting
