4.3 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Growler from JC’s. Nose orange/tangerine peel with some grapefruit, big paper, and some really dank sweaty armpit - about as nice as Mosaic/Simcoe can get! Lovely dry/attenuated character to match the papery hops, end with a just slightly sweeter-than-normal finish, which I attribute to the GP. Ultra-clear brilliant golden with avg carbonation and a short, soapy, bright white head. Taste is strongly bitter [though acclimatization is quick] with a nice grainy-bready malt that stands up in the finish after supplying a nice backbone in the middle. Very light pine, leans much more tropical. Clean, smooth, and lager-crisp full body, really juicy and refreshing [but not oily], semi-quenching but really gets the salivary glands going, could drink a lot of this, and quickly! I’d say the alcohol shows too much -- drinks more like a 7% beer with a bit of heat -- but that’s an easy flaw to forgive. Tremendous hop juice and a good example of how single malt grists can bring out a lot of complementary character; doubtless one of my favorites of the year. [2015.07.28: 4.3]
