“The 2009 release of Nemesis is best described as a Maple Bourbon barrel aged wheat wine holding 12% abv and 70 ibu’s. The barrels have been resting deep in the mines of Grand Rapids for nearly 9 months and have been most effective in developing a great product. The Bourbon barrels we used in this creation were once used to age Maple syrup from northern Michigan, then emptied, and procured for our use in aging this beer. The combination of American oak, Kentucky Bourbon, Michigan Maple syrup and our golden/tan wheat ale has provided a delicious malty sweet ale distinctive of strong vanilla and bourbon notes.”

Aged 6 years! Slightly hazy honey copper hue with no head. Lovely sherry aroma with maple, oak, honey, and boozy fruity tones. Big boozy flavor with loads of earthy honey, halls, fruity booze, maple, oak, and a boozy earthy sweet woody finish.

Bottle poured a clear orange amber with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of bourbon, toffee, spice and light oak. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of toffee, bourbon, oak and spice with a smooth dry lingering bourbon finish.

An absolutely rollicking aged blonde barley wine, with equal parts caramel malt and red wine and barrel nuances. Hints of wheat linger with sharp heat through the finish.

12 oz. bottle thanks to Willrunforbeer via dmac for free beer week, thanks men! No head on a muddy river water brown color. Aroma does show oxidation (cardboard like) oak barrel, bourbon still exists and light maple sugar.

The flavor shows moderate bourbon upfront with a light maple sugar through the center. Mild hints of dark fruit more of a plum or raisin with a very weak hint of (cardboard). But the mild oxidation doesn’t affect the enjoyment level I am sipping right now. Mild warming from the bourbon after the sip. Still all in all nice drink. Real surprised how well this held up... Fine brew but drink it if you got it!

Bottle received in trade. Thank you much umich03jm! Pours hazy reddish golden with a rather small goldenish offwhite head that leaves some sparse spotty trace on the glass while quickly dissipating. Smell is malty and herbal with sweet, white bread, caramel, toffee, charred wood, toasted nuts, pepper mint, hay, soil, bourbon alcohol and hints of cardboard. Taste is sweet, bitter, malty and tiny herbal with sweet white bread, caramel, toffee, vanilla fudge, charred wood, maple syrup, bourbon alcohol, coconut milk, brazil nuts, caramelized almonds and hints of cardboard and peppermint. Mouthfeel is soft, round, tiny astringent, boozy and medium to full bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with caramel, toffee, vanilla fudge, charred wood, brazil nuts, caramelized almonds, bourbon alcohol, peppermint and hints of cardboard. Clearly oxidized, especially in the smell which is a pity, but this still puts on a malty nutty show. I’ve tried to catch this for some time now and I’m sad I didn’t succeede until now. Most likely much better a few years ago.

(Bottle) Pours hazy orange red with a small head. The aroma holds efter eight chocolate (mint and dark, tart chocolate), oxidized leather notes, syrup, some wood and fairly deep malt. The flavour is medium sweet, medium bitter and tiny acidic with nuts, caramel, mint, alcohol, light wood, syrup and bitter hop. The mouthfeel is numbing and clean, yet somewhat soft with a light to medium carbonation. Medium to full bodied.

Bottle from the rotter via trade. Pour is nearly flat with only a very tiny head that dies quickly. A maple like booziness that reminds me of marshmallows and booze. A honey malt sweetness to the aroma underneath. Holy wowsers. Taste is initially moderate vanilla and honey then a touch of boost Unfortunately, then the malt kind of falls flat with a light peppery finish. I’m afraid this is just past its prime, but still a very good treat nonetheless. Papery oxidation is low to medium unfortunately, which I think is why the malt dies out. overall glad I drank it and I’ll finish the glass :)

12oz bottle generously given to me by dmac! Thanks bro! Pours a hazy burnt orange color with almost no head. Aroma of strong boozy bourbon, caramel, maple syrup, and candied oranges. Taste of dry oak, bourbon, caramel, grass, with a maple aftertaste, and light oxidation. Held up nicely! Glad I had the opportunity to try this!

Bottle courtesy deyholla - thanks! Pours cloudy rich amber with tons of clumpy protein floaties. Tiny mostly secondary beige head lingers as a brush on the surface generating some lacing. Aroma is rich malty, butterscotch, bourbon, perhaps a touch of cardboard. Flavor is malty and rich, fully sweet, light finishing bitterness, butterscotch, salt water taffee, bourbon, vanilla. No real maple left, but I think it influences some of the unidentified easter candy notes I am picking up. Fullish body, creamy mouthfeel, Fairly hot. Some oxidization for sure, but pretty tasty after all this time.
