COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“The 2009 release of Nemesis is best described as a Maple Bourbon barrel aged wheat wine holding 12% abv and 70 ibu’s. The barrels have been resting deep in the mines of Grand Rapids for nearly 9 months and have been most effective in developing a great product. The Bourbon barrels we used in this creation were once used to age Maple syrup from northern Michigan, then emptied, and procured for our use in aging this beer. The combination of American oak, Kentucky Bourbon, Michigan Maple syrup and our golden/tan wheat ale has provided a delicious malty sweet ale distinctive of strong vanilla and bourbon notes.”

Old notes, consumed 2/21/10. Pours an orangish light brown with thick off-white head, minimal lacing. Aroma of wheat, yeast, bourbon, caramel, molasses, and a slight bit of maple. Flavor matches well, but is pretty hot and slightly overwhelming. I have yet to find a wheat wine that I could say that I truly enjoyed.

Bottle courtesy deyholla - thanks! Pours cloudy rich amber with tons of clumpy protein floaties. Tiny mostly secondary beige head lingers as a brush on the surface generating some lacing. Aroma is rich malty, butterscotch, bourbon, perhaps a touch of cardboard. Flavor is malty and rich, fully sweet, light finishing bitterness, butterscotch, salt water taffee, bourbon, vanilla. No real maple left, but I think it influences some of the unidentified easter candy notes I am picking up. Fullish body, creamy mouthfeel, Fairly hot. Some oxidization for sure, but pretty tasty after all this time.

May 19, 2014 - bottle via trade. Brownish orange pour with limited head and some sediment. Aroma was sweet maple, bourbon, caramel and some vanilla. As it warmed, then the wood came out in the aroma. Taste still had quite a bit of sweetness, but also was very woody. The bourbon was strong in the aroma, but was rather tame in the taste. Little bit of dry alcohol in the finish. Smooth drinking and full bodied.

14-MAY-2014, bottle @Churchkey, Washington DC. Courtesy of a fantastic bartender - and free beer is always good - but this one is fantastic:-) Slightly hazy orange with lasting low off-white head. Does not look like a four year old beer. Aroma is bourbon, malt, honney, sweetness, hops too...? Taste is the same. with also nuts, alcohol, orange peel, and some hops in the form of grape fruit and pine. Sweet but never too much. Carbonation is a bit on the soft side. Perhaps that makes it seem a bit thinner than it is? Because it is not that bit thick sirupy monster that I would have guessed. But still a fantastic brew. Thanks again to a bartender that I did not get the name of:-)

Bottle thanks to Jeff for sharing. Aroma is mostly anise/licorice with dark fruits, caramel, and wheat. Tastes like an anise bomb now. Pretty crazy how this beer has developed. I never wrote down my review when I had this fresh but I know I loved it. It just didn’t age very well. It’s still got a nice mouthfeel and there’s a touch of booze in the finish.

Bottle from trade with tstockstrom, cheers! Hazy to opaque reddish orange, small beige head. Aroma: lots of bourbon, toffee, vanilla, floral. Taste: bourbon, honey, sweet licorice like Basset’s Allsorts, vanilla, some pine, sweet and malty, dried fruit. Full-bodied. Awesome!

[Bottle / 4 years old] Thanks for the nice extra, Corey! Pours a murky-ish, burnt orange & amber shaded color with no real head... just a few stray bubbles occasionally coming to the top. Aroma has plenty of maple left; also getting notes of flowers, wood, sweet butterscotch, toffee, bourbon, vanilla, wheat-y esters, & a strong blend of mint, anise, & licorice. Taste has more butterscotch & maple syrup with a mellowed out bourbon character. More licorice, again, with a back-end, minty/anise feel to it. Sweet fruit in the aftertaste... A weird plum/pineapple combo; dark-fruity & almost tropical at the same time. Boozy finish. Thick, swampy mouth feel with low carbonation. It’s simply good, but it’s not great. No real oxidation taking place yet (at least on this bottle), but at this point in time, Sweet Repute is better. Perhaps a little harsh on my rating because I was a bit let down.

Rated on 3-05-2010 Fort Wayne, IN Gathering. This beer forms a small off-white head with a short retention, no visible carbonation and no lacing. The aroma is wheat, maple, fruity, and some alcohol. The taste is sweet, light hop bitterness, maple, wheat, and somewhat boozy. This beer is tingly on the palate and is medium bodied. Overall, this is a sipping beer, worth trying and a beer I would drink again.

Clear copper orange. Aroma is very boozy and sweet. Tastes boozy and sweet. Hot alcohol burn that dissipates as it warms. Delicious.

2009 12oz bottle pours a hazy orange with zero head. Vanilla bourbon aroma. Taste is the same with a bit of a alcohol finish.

This bitch rolls out tawny and thin, small bubbles rise infrequently to an etched surface. I could smell booze as soon as I cracked the crown, plenty of alcohol, vanilla, oak, more booze, butterscotch and a hint of peppermint in the background. Flavor is sweet with plenty of toffee character and marshmallows. Vanilla and spicy mint in the background (this is intriguing). Reminds me very little of a Wheatwine, and accordingly, I find myself enjoying this one a bit. The body is medium with moderate on low carb. Would have liked a bit of a simple syrup consstency, but hey, can’t have it all. Overall, and interesting beer, the mint nuances threw me off, and the ethanol is poorly shrowded, I’d drink again, but it’s a mood beer for me I think. Serving type: bottle 05-31-2012
