4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a deep brown color with a low, off-white head that fades quickly. Aroma has a strong earthy nose, a lot of citrus bitterness with a very smooth roasted and toasted malt presence that lends a sweet, leathery nose. Flavor starts off with notes of anise, caramel malt and light fig and flows into the bitter hops component the adds a light pine with a strong earthy presence and modest citrus orange kick. Body is dense with a pretty oily feeling and a low amount of carbonation that works for the style perfectly. Overall a fantastic brew. The malt sweetness has mellowed and lends a very complex smoothness. The hops have mellowed a bit add a bitter, dark fruitiness. Fantastic drinking.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Aged 5 years! Deep dark brown with a thin bubbly light beige head. Big boozy brown sugar and oak and earthy dark chocolate on the nose with a touch of caramel and plum. Big huge flavor with robust cocoa, brown sugar, boozy honey and fruity undertones, lots of roast, lots of oak. Big booze and roast and herbal bitterness behind it all.

GD50 stream, night 2. 6/28/2015 tasting.
This beer is tasting better than it ever has. The hops are taking a backseat without tasting stale. Some oxidation in the nose, but the flavor is sweet molasses and caramels with an assertive bitterness to cut through. Sherry-like oxidation notes & lingering bitterness finish.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle thanks to deyholla! Pours rich deep mahogany, small tan head, decent lacing. Aroma is full of dark sugars, raisin, prune, fig, a touch of pine, chocolate. Flavor is a bit oxidized, medium sweet and medium bitter, chocolate, fig, raisin, cardboard, pine trees. Full body, creamy mouthfeel. Pretty hot. Likely a bit past its prime, but still a nice sipper.

never woulda guessed barleyine. black, super-hopped (100 ibus) and 12%. rich, dark roasted malts and a ton of hops in the flavor and aroma. would acheive pretty good balance except that everything is so in your face (not that there’s anything wrong woth that). overall, a good but not great beer with a lasting chocolate bitter finish."

May 19, 2014 - bottle via trade. Dark brown pour with limited bubbly head and some lacing. Aroma was roasted malt, caramel and some hops. Taste was as advertised - roasty, little bit sweet and a citrus bitter finish. Smooth and easy to drink with a medium to full body.
