3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 hennes (932) - Fountain, USA - AUG 28, 2002
On Nitro at the brewery. Beautiful beer, deep browns with a good tick head. Fairly thick in the mouth, too, with sweet mellow oaty flourishes quickly succumbing to stronger molasses in the middle and finally healthy roasted bitters that linger pleasantly. A damn fine brew and I wonder how good it could be off nitrogen.

Pint at the brewery. Pours black with no head. Aroma has notes of soy sauce, oatmeal, milk chocolate and coffee. The palate is smooth and on the lighter side of stouts. It’s semi-sweet with chocolate oatmeal flavor but has a decent roasty finish for balance.

Bottle, I think, at pre-DLD party. This seriously seemed like a toasted breakfast to me. Including the coffee, pancakes and syrup. Good but that’s just what popped into my mind when sampling it.

Draft at blind tiger. Pours a black body with no head, light spotty lacing. Aroma is light coffee roast and oatmeal. Mouthfeel is medium and carbonated with notes of coffee roast, light wood, and fresh but slightly muted hop character.

Black and tan color. Coffee and chocolate scent. Superb head with excellent coating! Extremely smooth, smokey chocolate taste with slight coffee bean sour. Long lasting full flavor.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 gearbike (510) - West Bloomfield, Michigan, USA - MAR 26, 2012
Great tasting but taste as in flavor not as in a heavy meal. Pours black with some bubbly lacing at the top. Big malt aroma. Above all else it is very creamy but still drinkable. Roasted malt, dark chocolate, and just a touch of coffee flavor. The nitro-tap edition was similar with just a bit of carbonation which seems to bring on the hops a bit.

Draught@Founders Brewer Night of The Pony Bar, NYC
Dark ruby, almost opaque color, steady brown head. Light toasted aroma has dark chocolate. Light-bodied. Toasted, coffeish, a bit ashy oatmeal stout with soft but weak palate. Must be stunner with right food.

Nitro pour at the source. Creamy and full bodied, but not too heavy. Some light chocolate, a touch of coffee to the nose. Very dark pour with the cascading creamy nitro head. Some hoppy bitterness in there too. Solid oatmeal stout, and a good session brew.

On tap at Founders. Black with a light tan head. Aromas of coffee and chocolate, little bit of a caramel note too. Taste was primarily chocolate, very creamy and smooth. Beautiful lacing that covered the inside of the glass. This was very tasty for a low abv nitrogen dispensed beer.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 BMan1113VR (6531) - Los Angeles, California, USA - JAN 12, 2012
On tap at Spuyten Duyvil. Pours with a near black body and a lasting tan head that leaves great lace behind. Aromas are roasty, coffee, espresso. Coffee forward, but a bit of a dry and chalky note. Flinty. Flavors are of coffee, bready, nougat, nutty, and cereal grainy. Smooth, malty and bready. Good stuff.
