sneagrams3 (1342), St. Louis, Missouri, USA May 10, 2008 Tasted 4/27/08. 4oz sample from the brewpub. Dark pitch brown. Layer of taupe head. Nice head retention. Oaty toasty bready nose. Smooth. Nitrogen infused. Inky coffee flavor. Medium bodied. Low acidity with a nice toffee flavor. Low effervescence. Smooth with a good malt roast. Slightly nutty. Good flavor!
nbutler11 (40), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jul 23, 2008 Way good. Pours like Guiness from the tap and maintains the same consistency on the palate, but there’s a unique presence of coffee and cream, very similar to Kahlua, here that makes it highly enjoyable to drink. kieleszd (76), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Jul 8, 2008 Creamy Nitrogen head makes this an excellent stout, but forbids you to leave the building with it. This would be highly acclaimed if it could reach a greater audience. For now you’ll have to stop in at the brewery. To the beer, its full of malt and subtle oatmeal. If you appreciate Guinness, than this is a must. Dark light body with double heavy cream head. Watching the malts fall is a show in itself. drewbeerme (1716), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 6, 2008 on nitro tap at the Founders brewpub. pours black with reverse cascading creamy off white head. nose is mildly roasty with milk chocolate. dry chocolate and mild roast. creamy body that leaves a watery finish on the palate. not much of a hop character here. Glouglouburp (1876), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jul 4, 2008 In short: A typical and slightly above average nitro Oatmeal Stout. Pretty decent and highly drinkable but nothing special
How: Tap (nitro) at brewpub
The look: Black body with a long-lasting large tan head
In long: Again Founders have done a good job in packing a lot of malts into a beer. However this one just isn’t very tasty especially compared to their Porter and Vanilla Porter I had just before. Smooth round body, distant black chocolate, nitro carbonation creates a superb pillowy mouthfeel but it also softens out the finish too much. It’s better put together than most other oatmeal stout but it’s nothing you haven’t had many times before, especially if you go to Founder’s and drink a pint of their Oatmeal Stout every week.
mdm46410 (517), Griffith, Indiana, USA Jul 2, 2008 On the nitro-tap at Founders and served in an English pint glass. This stout poured an almost black with a thick, creamy, nitro head of tan foam that lasted forever. Excellent lacing. The aroma of the beer was made up of muted roasted notes, chocolate, and coffee. The flavor was much the same. Subdued and muted by the nitro. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied and ultra creamy. A decent stout, but I was expecting more coming from Founders.
