phaleslu (420), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Nov 7, 2009 12 oz. bottle from The Party Source. Pours a cloudy gold with plenty of sediments and a small white head that leaves a few bubbles at the surface and a thin white rim. Aroma is subtle, with earthy hops, citrus, grass, and malts. The flavor isn’t quite as quiet, with all of those elements along with straw, alcohol, honey, yeast, and stronger hops than the aroma. Light-medium bodied, bitter, and refreshing. Very nice APA. topherh (878), Kearney, Missouri, USA Nov 3, 2009 Bottle pours golden with a white head. Aroma is grassy, citrusy hops, and a little biscuity malt. Flavor is much the same with a nice long bitter hop finish. beercamel (81), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 18, 2009 had in a 12 oz. bottle, pours dark golden honey color. Has a great flavor and hoppy taste. Scent is hops, grass, citrus, and thick malt. A great brew. obxdude10 (1545), Pottstown, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 12, 2009 This is a very delicious and enjoyable APA. It starts with an interesting pour of a dark golden color, but with a hazy appearance and orange hue. The head is big and fluffy with great lacing. The nose is full of hops, grass, lemon zest and bready malts. The body is smooth, slightly creamy, balanced and delicious. The flavors feature notes of pine, citrus, lemon, floral hops and grass. There is also a nice balance of bready malts. The finish is again a little creamy, but more of the hops come through, featuring a real spicy and dry note. I sampled this in a bottle, but I imagine this is even better from the tap. Great APA! Narnad (681), Wonder Lake, Illinois, USA Sep 29, 2009 Sampled at Lundeen’s Brew Ha-Ha 2009. Pours a hazy orang color with a modest off-white head. Aroma has a light sweet malt note but most of the aroma comes from the floral, grassy and orange citrus hops note with a light peach, apricot and banana fruitiness to it. Flavor is overall a moderate bitterness, light leafy bitterness, orange citrus and apricot really come through and finishes with a mild caramel malt note. The texture is a bit oily with a decent body to hold the flavors and a good amount of carbonation. The sweet apricot present in this pale was very different than other but did make it a bit interesting. Decent brew. noncaloric (601), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Sep 20, 2009 Hazy orange-gold, abundant off-white head, good retention, streaks of lace on the glass. Hops aroma, principally floral, a bit of citrus aromatics there, too; yeasty must as well. Flavor strongly floral, balanced by the must and yeast of yeast. Malts provide balancing sweetness. Hops bitterness comes off as slightly soapy near the finish. Medium body, zest, lively palate. Soapy flavors are reinforced by a very soft palate. omhper (12147), Stockholm, Sweden Sep 7, 2009 Bottled at Monk’s Café Wallingatan, Stockholm. Lightly hazy golden, richhead. Strong aroma of grapefruit. Fairly sweet with light, soft doughy malt. the lightness and softness allows for full access to the citrusy, perfumy hops. Very up front and hop driven. A focused pale ale up to Founders high standards! BrotherGrendel (545), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Sep 3, 2009 Bottle at Pinhook. Cloudy yellow hue and thick creamy head like a hefe!! Nose is floral and citrus hops with a decent malt backbone. Flavor is more malty than expected, the hops are more in the background here and there is moderate floral and citrus tones mostly in the finish. An interesting beer with a hop nose and malt flavor, easy drinking and balanced with little alcohol heat. This doesn’t fit nearly into a classic style but is still delicious.
