4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Excellent pale ale. Much like Sierra Nevada’s and Boulevard’s. Both are better than this one which is slightly lacking something. The fact that this pale ale’s score is 87 and Blvd’s pale is 69 is proof that it’s more about brands than flavor. Blvd’s pale ale was in the 30’s before the Smokestack series made people pay attention to the brand.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Hazy golden colour with lots of tiny particles in the brew. Nice creamy warm cap that stays long and give out bubbly lace. Hoppy nose with fruity grapefruit notes and mild pine. Wet mouthfeel at first, but gets dryer as the aftertaste progress. Mild bitterness lingers. The taste is on the fruity side with lots of citrus and a bit of its zest. Something is not well-balanced in the middle. Not a bad APA, but not something I would have many.

Tap in pint glass at Sheffields in Chicago. Dark Gold with small white head. Citrus hop aroma. Hop taste but we’ll balanced. Dry but good balance throughout on the palate. Nice beer, better than expected.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pint at Sheffield’s in Chicago. Definitely a fan of this tavern. I thought this would take on more hop aroma. Mild aroma on a light golden ale. Taste has some of the grain, cereal elements but balanced with plenty of hop taste action. Resin present. Not a lingering finish but clean. I’m surprised by its drinkability. Nothing special but a decent option.
