3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: APR 25, 2015 [2015-04-24, Rooster, Oulu] Golden brown, hazy. Little head. The aroma consists mainly of herbal hops and barley malt. The taste begins with herbal hops and malt and leaves a lingering hop aroma to mouth. Slighly dull.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a hazy mix of yellow and orange with not too big a head. Aroma is citrus and bitter hops, caramel, bread, sweet orange, slight hop funk as well. Taste is smooth, bready malt, hops, and caramel foremost with a slight sweetness of orange juice and a semi-dry finish. Overall a good beer, pretty sessionable, slightly above average regular pale ale.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
A- Pine, bitter, citrus, subtle caramel.
A- Amber color, clear liquid, off white head.
T- Pine, floral, citrus, caramel, bready.
P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, bitter finish.
O- This was very well balanced and not bitter at all. Lots of the caramel and bread tones to it. Not my favorite Founders by a long shot and I’m not a Pale Ale guy either but I really wanted to try a Pale Ale with such a low IBU count. Not bad.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
At 35 IBU’s, Founders Pale Ale is a bit of an oddity in the craft beer space. In recent years, Pale Ales and IPA’s have become almost indistinguishable in terms of hoppiness. You won’t catch me complaining. Any excuse to add more hops is good enough for me. That’s why I’m honestly surprised by how much I like Founders Pale Ale since it lacks the bitterness I love. I suppose it works in this case because this ale reflects evenness of flavor rather than watered down hops. The malt backbone is strong and sweet. Yet, it compliments the hops rather than fighting them. This Pale Ale smells like resinous sap and tastes like pine, nectar, and bread. In true Founders fashion, Pale Ale is damn easy to drink and one that I’d gladly return to.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
AROMA: A mild floral hop aroma is at the front but not overwhelming. Some caramel notes from the malt is there but hard to pick out.
APPEARANCE: Slightly cloudy gold colored beer with a very thin white head with mild carbonation
TASTE: Light sweetness with a medium-high bitterness. The caramel flavors are up front but quickly fade to the bitterness.
PALATE: Light body with an oily texture. Mild soft carbonation to start then a long dry bitter finish.
OVERALL: Not the worst pale ale I have had, but not the best either. The finish is too dry for me.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle. Pours hazy gold with decent white head. Really not getting a lot from this. Either my tastebuds are shot or this is rather bland with faded hops. Just about scrapes a pass.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
DATE TASTED: April 16, 2015... GLASSWARE: Brew at the Zoo pint... OCCASION: a good, long day needs an ale night... APPEARANCE: pours a copper amber body that teems with life--swirling, active bubbles and steady, upward effervescence; reasonably thick, two-finger white head stays packed as the glass settles; nice finger-like tracings on the outtro... AROMA: floral yes, as the Cascades promise; some subtle caramel and cereal offer a reasonable allure ... PALATE: lively rush at the tongue and teeth; medium-bodied and creamy, with a pleasant, long finish--what a worthwhile pale ale should embody... TASTE: mellow, almost apologetically light flavors--hops are floral and only peacefully bitter; the caramel malts keep this secure... OVERALL: quite sessionable, with the hint of dank wood at the end that keeps the experience earthy and heavier than expected; from a leftover surprise pack--judging on that alone (about $1 a beer in the 12-pack), a win...
