| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 31, 2009 Bottle. Pours deep black with nice beige head, heavy lacing. Aroma is mostly bitter chocolate, almost creamy. Chocolate, coffee, and a slight almond flavor, some hoppy bitterness hiding underneath. Very thick and sticky, this one is heavy but smooth. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 31, 2009 Bottle courtesy of drowland. Pure black pour. Light brown head that sticks around for a bit. Aroma is soft chocolate. The same scent that would waft in from grandma’s kitchen on the weekends. Coffee notes are very apparent as well. Dry roast flavor is tasted first with a dark chocolate bitter on the finish. Has almost a nutty quality to it as well. Nice porter, not overthetop flavors that are in the extreme styles, but it is a pretty nice mix. Sonicdescent (382), Donora, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Aug 30, 2009 I haven’t yet had a founders brew that I haven’t liked, and their maltier lineup is the stuff of legends. First time trying this one, looks good with a thin but lasting brown head over a very dark brown liquid. Scent is roasted coffee, chocolate, very similar to the Imperial stout, not quite as coffee centric as the breakfast stout, and molasses. Quite phenomenal nose. Flavor unfortunately isn’t the slam dunk that the nose is, as we have a good solid porter, but it misses the perfect nuanced taste of it’s bigger brothers. There is certainly more hop presence than in the stouts, but not nearly as much as a Yeti or Rasputin. I like that the body is slightly thicker than when I usually think of porter but this is much thinner than the stouts. Pours a beautiful black, with a small but lasting brown head. Aroma is an enticing blend of roasted malt, chocolate, and coffee. Flavor is very balanced. Smooth. Tastes strongly of coffee and cocoa, with a nice dry bitter finish. A fantastic Porter.

Nice cocoa and molasses aroma with a bit of ash and brown sugar. Flavor includes roasted chocolate-covered kona coffee beans, some nuttiness, and even dark fruits. More body than is typical of the style. Solid. | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Aug 24, 2009 Bottle from Gomer’s in Lee’s Summit, MO. Smells nice, very dark standard porter aromas but i still wasn’t prepared for what i tasted- WOW. Dark roasted malts, creamy chocolate, and a hint of smoke, everything i love in a porter and tons of stuff going on with hops, coffee, and more peeking through the background. Incredible palate, perfect creamy thickness. Can’t believe this is only $9 for a sixer. Anchor Porter and Fuller’s London Porter are great for the price but this is my new go-to affordable porter. With price as no object, only Olfabrikken is better even taking imperial porters into account. Why did it take me so long to try this? Thanks to Founder’s for distributing in MO now.
