COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pours silky black with a creamy tan head. The nose is sweet with strong chocolate and caramel malt presence. No absence of hops gives Founders’ robust porter the full flavor you deserve and expect. Cozy like velvet. It’s a lover, not a fighter.

Shared bottle at Cardinal. Pours black with a finger thick, creamy, brown head. the liquid laces dark brown on the edge of the glass. Coffee, chocolate and roasted malts aromas fills the nose. Roasted bitter and choclate sweet flavors. Full bodied and smooth with a gentle carbonation. Dry finish with the roasted notes lingering.

Pitch black pour with a thin bubbly head. Good amount of lacing around the rim of the glass. Has a creamy coffee aroma, but comes out much more in the flavor. Also a good amount of dark chocolate in the flavor. Very well balanced and enjoyable.

Second beer in a mini Porter tasting: Founders Porter poured into english pint glass. Dark thick pour. Very dark brown head. Thicker, darker and smokier than the GLEFP. Sweet aroma of chocolate, coffee, dark malt, vanilla with some smoke. Smooth and creamy, taste of roasted malt, molasses, chocolate, coffee. Very different than GLEFP, not as drinkable but a more creamy full mouthfeel. Exceptional.

350ml bottle at Håndverkerstuene. Pours a relatively solid amount of bubbly, fawn coloured head over a plain black body. Mid-sweet aroma of dark, earthy malts, slightly roasted. Roasted dark malts to the start developing into a rounded taste profile of smooth chocolate offset by bitter coffee grounds. Well rounded finish. Very pleasant (Oslo, 26.11.2010).

Smooth, dark, rich, malty, chocolaty, hoppy. Flavor is mellow, yet rich and complex. Since it is a porter, it isn’t quite as thick as a stout. Very solid offering from Founders.

Local Option Chi town. Pours with a dark chocolate hue with a tan hue. Beautiful aroma of coffee beans. Taste follow suits with malty blend of burnt coffee and sweet chocolate. Taste mellows a little to quick for me, but its a porter not a stout. I say that because last weekend was a Founders Breakfasts Stout party and this beer starts down that road then stops.

Thanks to jampics2 for sending a bottle of this my way. A: Pours a very dark brown with a beautiful tan head and plenty of lacing as it makes its way down. S: Loads of roasted malt alongside a fair amount of chocolate. T: Roast and sweet malt combine together with chocolate and hints of coffee. M: Very nice. A bit dry; nice and full. D: One of the better porters that I’ve had; I would expect nothing less from Founders. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 05-07-2010

Bottle from Ølbutikken, Copenhagen. A thick, frothy caramel head resides elegantly over the otherwise black body. A sniff detects roasted malts, milk chocolate, hints of coffee and black berries. Taste is not far behind; mocha, milk chocolate again, hints of roastiness and berries. Extremely, perhaps profoundly, well-toned. Mouthfeel is slightly creamy and very pleasant. I agree to what the masses preach: don’t think a porter gets much better than this. Rock solid.

Three words: Bold, Flavorful Yummy! Excellent on the nose. Taste is the flavor of strong roasted coffee, vanilla bean, dark fruit and chocolate malt. A ton of sweetness and maltiness. But the hops help balance out the sweetness making it a very smooth drinker. This brew has complexity with the hops and roasted malt characteristics. Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Smooth, decadent creaminess to the mouthfeel. This could be an after dinner drink or just a nice sipper on a cold winter night. Outstanding!
