Pours silky black with a creamy tan head. The nose is sweet with strong chocolate and caramel malt presence. No absence of hops gives Foundersí robust porter the full flavor you deserve and expect. Cozy like velvet. Itís a lover, not a fighter.

Deep dry chocolate malt with great subtle finish and nice after taste makes this porter a great choice.

Havenít had a beer this good in a long time. Forgot how much I loved this style. A nice dark brown body, completely opaque. A nice tan to medium brown head the had good retention and nice lacing. Aroma had many complex layers. Smoke, chocolate, roasted coffee and hops. Smoke note pared well with both the chocolate and coffee notes and the slightly citrus hops was a nice surprise in the background. Flavor was velvety smooth nice a bittersweet chocolate flavor upfront. Coffee notes was an assertive bitterness that cut through the chocolateís sweetness. Some smoke and slightly bitter hops in the finish. Very dry on the palate and the body certainly was full. You donít need a spoon but itís close.

UPDATED: NOV 7, 2015 Deeply dark beer with a foamy, off-tan head. No red hue on the edges, no light coming throughóthis is almost stout territory. The aroma is enticing, with notes of dark chocolate and coffee; very grainy and crisp. The body is medium, carbonation is prickly, and the alcohol goes down unnoticed. The taste is great, with cocoa and coffee making big appearances, and subtle hops also showing up. This is a simple and straightforward porter that just works. Itís incredibly drinkable and uncomplicated, but itís also assertive and flavorful.

Bottle. Aroma is strong smoky cocoa w/ some anise and slight herbal notes. Really more like a stout that a porter. Black w/ with a beautiful inch of tan foam. Flavors of sweet cocoa balanced by deep, dark hops. A bit full bodied for a porter. Creamy soft mouth feel and a smooth slowly diminishing tail. Tastes like a stout w/o a heavy body. Truly delicious.

Pours an opaque very dark brown with a modest dark tan head and decent spiderweb lacing. Iím not able to figure out the great accolades for this porter. The taste starts big with black coffee and bittersweet roasted malt. It never moves from that base. No turning over with bittering or with dried fruits, or with spices, or with.... The finish is disappointing - it leaves a lingering coating on the tongue and the roof of the mouth. Also very heavy for a 6.5%abv. It isnít bad,...there are just other porters that are much better (letís start with Olfabrikken from Denmark, or Koff from Finland, or even Samuel Smithís Taddy Porter from England).

Bottled 01.13.12. Pours dark red and brown, opaque in the glass, with a small brown head. Aromas of cocoa, milk chocolate, and caramel, with some coffee and cream, as well as mild berry. The flavor is espresso, mildly bitter at first, with bittersweet cocoa and mocha. The finish is coffee and cream, with lingering bitter espresso. Medium carbonation and body; rich, with a dry finish. Very nice. [988]
