Pours silky black with a creamy tan head. The nose is sweet with strong chocolate and caramel malt presence. No absence of hops gives Founders’ robust porter the full flavor you deserve and expect. Cozy like velvet. It’s a lover, not a fighter.

Spot on for appearance & palate. I’m not certain porters should have this much roastiness. Darn good porter.

I am not a huge porter fan, but this is the best I have had. Thick, smooth, easy drinking, a ton of flavor, definitely worth trying and a go to porter for me.

Chocolate malt and coffee porter with mild hop bitterness. Very smooth and balanced flavor. The mystery ingredient could be cinnamon? Similar to Rogue Mocha Porter with less hop bite.

Dark black color with the pour. Large brown head. Foamed over slightly. Ooops. Rich chocolate taste with coffee. Smells amazing. Super excited to try this beer. Rich roastyness. Coffee, chocolate and some vanilla.

Bottle at Olympen. Black underneath a huge, creamy, beige head. Bitter chocolate and roasted coffee in the nose and mouth. Good dryness, hints of tart berries. A great porter.

UPDATED: DEC 23, 2011 Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

A: Deep brown almost completely opaque beer, literally only the tiniest light goes through the edges. Thin caramel colored head that dissipates to a lacing that lasts the length of the beer.

S: Bitter dark chocolate and espresso flavors, in a good way. Reminds me of a fine mocha espresso.

T: The bitter taste of good dark chocolate mixed well with an espresso shot, just as it smells. Heck even my girlfriend who dislikes beer likes it, that’s how good it is, without being overly sweet at all. Leaves a bitter taste in mouth.

M: Thick and medium carbonation make this an easy drink.

O: I’ve not drank many porters, but this is my favorite. Great job founders for making a very robust beer that’s easy to drink.

Bottle, poured dark brown with an out of control foam. The smooth vanilla is what sets this apart from other porters.

12oz bottle. one of the best porters i have had. the aroma of coffee, roasted malts and chocolate blended together is wonderful. the deep rich taste of each plus a blend of hops that comes out and give this beer its true character. perfectly balance from first taste to last and then you want more.

You smell the roasted and coffee notes right on top. Taste like it smells but with a little bitter finish and a little vanilla flavor. Well balanced, drinkability is high even though it’s a porter. I’m not blown away but it’s good and on style. Once again great work by founders. We’ll see later this week how the Bell’s version compares.
