COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pours silky black with a creamy tan head. The nose is sweet with strong chocolate and caramel malt presence. No absence of hops gives Foundersí robust porter the full flavor you deserve and expect. Cozy like velvet. Itís a lover, not a fighter.

12 oz. Tried as part of a porter tasting. A: Jet black with minimal lacing. S: Dark chocolate and coffee. T: Coffee and dark chocolate notes pervade this brew. M: Medium body and no carbonation - perhaps a bit too smooth.

UPDATED: FEB 5, 2013 Refrigerated bottle poured into a shaker. Pours opaque black with a slight highlight of dark brown and pretty good lacing. Head is medium brown, thick body. and creamy smooth texture. Taste is roasted malt, nut, some mocha/chocolate, and some herbal hops. Had this back to back with smuttynose robust porter; and this one looks better, has a better palate, but the aroma and taste of both are good in different ways.

12 oz bottle. Pours super dark brown, almost black. Light mocha head. Aroma is super dark roasted coffee and burnt nuts, in a good way. Only hints of something sweet, but just faint. Little sweetness then a great roasty bitter finish. This is not harsh by any means and is a great example of how to get dark roasted flavors into a beer while making it incredibly drinkable.

Bottled. Black with a large light brown head. Aroma is roasted nuts and coffee and a ton of vanilla. Flavor is also roasty, in a very smooth brew that has notes of chocolate, buts and coffee...well done and straightforward.

Bottle. Black pour with some tan head. Coffee, and dark malts with some light bitter hop aromas. Caramel, chocolate and roasted malt flavors are slightly sweet, but not overly, not so much hop presence and the texture is very nice for a porter.

An amazing porter. This is by far my favorite porter. Big, roasted, chocolate, goodness. Amazing porter.

Pours a deep, opaque brown with swirls of black and a milk chocolate mocha head. Lots of small bubbles. Very nutty on the nose -- almonds, I think -- as well as toffee, darkish (but not too bitter) chocolate, and roasted malts. Carbonation is nice but a bit much on the back of the mouth -- one of my few complaints. More complex than most porters Iíve had -- develops a bitter dark chocolate/almond aftertaste due to the hops used. Really nice -- creamy in the mouth, except for the back of the throat carbonation, which interrupts the smooth experience like some sort of jealous bully. At this point, thatís my only complaint.

12 ounce bottle - $1.79 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia. Appearance: Dispenses an onyx black body sporting a tall, proud-looking, dark tan head with plenty of staying power and substantial lacing. Smell: Rich malty nose of bold, roasty coffee beans, melty bittersweet chocolate bars, licorice sticks, and moist dark fruits. A delightfully sultry scent, indeed. Taste: The firm roastiness leads in the taste, with a flavor of strong coffee unabashedly laced with chocolate sauce, licorice, and a hint of real vanilla bean. Amply sweet throughout. Dark fruitiness buried within the heady maltiness. Roasty, earthy bitterness. Shot of cream. Long, leisurely, roasty finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Smooth, succulent creaminess to the mouthfeel. Drinkability: Itís really pushing at the boundary line between porters and stouts. A sterling, tasty robust porter from ole Founders and one I freely, even cheerfully recommend to others.
