COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pours silky black with a creamy tan head. The nose is sweet with strong chocolate and caramel malt presence. No absence of hops gives Founders’ robust porter the full flavor you deserve and expect. Cozy like velvet. It’s a lover, not a fighter.

Bottle. Heavy malt aromas of dark bread, toasted and dark bitter chocolate, light to moderate resin for the hops and earth for the yeast, with notes of charcoal, milk and tobacco. Head is small, frothy turning wispy, light brown with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is very dark brown. Flavor starts lightly sweet and moderately acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and acidic, and moderately bitter. Palate is on the fuller side of medium, oily with a soft to lively carbonation and finishes a little chalky and slightly dry and sticky. Deep, rich and full of flavors and aromas, this is a Porter perfect for winter evenings sipping.

12oz bottle from pushkinwow (wow!) Pours a pure black, with a small bit of head. Lots of roasty aroma. Coffee, caramel, and bitter chocolate. Oily and bitter. This is terrific. I don’t drink a lot of porter, but if I could get this. I would.

UPDATED: SEP 14, 2012 Cigarette ashes. Opaque pitch black/brown; cardboard brown head, slushy, minimal lace. Slick oily feel, ashy feel. Caramel and toffee malt. Sweeter than expected. Dusty in the nose; beautifully balanced between the chalky nuttiness and a sweet caramel balance.

One delicious porter. Black but will let light through, roasty toasty aroma and flavor, so easy to drink, and not crazy abv which is a huge plus. great beer.

This beer to me is very dark, rich, and delicious. This beer was the deciding factor into which style of beer was my favorite. If you like porters, this one will treat you really nice :)

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color porter with a nice thick foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt and chocolate is quite powerful and interesting. Taste is a nice mix between some black chocolate notes with medium roasted malt notes though the overall mix is balanced by just enough sweetness. Body is full and has a super nice creamy texture with good carbonation. Very well brewed and something I wouldn’t mind having on a regular basis.

Very complex porter. Love the texture and smoothness. Rich yet drinkable. If you like porters it’s one of my favorites.

On tap at Rattle & Hum, New York. Thin off white head. Clear deep pour. Lots of chocholate in the aftertaste. Yummy!

Man, stingy bitch*s rating this beer. It simply doesn’t get any better than this. One could mount a niggling criticism that it is mislabeled as a porter, as many have noted, and certainly there is truth in this charge. However, once you get passed that, you can drink it for what it is: the best porter in the world (and if you take it as a stout, among the best of that genre as well). Contrary to the previous evaluator, I rate the carbonation as a major strength, but I personally dislike weak carbonation of stouts of the Guinness variety. But this stuff by the truckload!
