3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 pushkinwow (739) - Ontario, CANADA - OCT 14, 2011
12oz bottle. Black with velvet mocha head. Chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, some smoke; very smooth, nice carbonation, nice bitterness that grows towards a nice dry end, long hoppy, chocolate and malt profile at the end. One of the best porters I’ve had and probably the first one I’ve really enjoyed in a long time. Worth seeking out!

Draft. Pours a thickish dark brown with tan head and good lacing. Smell is roasted malts, dark chocolate and a tad roasted coffee. Taste is much the same as smell with some caramel like undertones and a nice bitter kick. Probably the best porter I’ve had to date.

12 oz bottle poured in a dimpled mug: very complex aroma chocolate, coffee, toast, spruce, earthy, soy sauce, smoke: pitch black color, minimal head, brown foam; medium sweetness, salty, lightly bitter; full body, soft carbonation, oily feel, an abrupt burn then sweet burnt finish; great beer with meal and just finishing a long hard day.

Bottle. Dark black pour, a little carbonation and chocolatey and slightly smoky aroma. Flavor is slightly sweet nutty chocolate, creamy and finished very mellow and earthy. Surprised I hadn’t rated this one until now.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 QuezXLV (268) - New Jersey, USA - OCT 4, 2011
A lot of chocolate and coffee in the aroma. Nice combination of bitterness and full body. Very dar and incredible lacing. Kind of oily on the palate. As far as porters go, the taste is nutty and burnt and exctaly what I’d expect a porter to be.
