4.4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 IndianaRed (1798) - Boise, Idaho, USA - AUG 29, 2005
Bottle Pours a dense opaque dark born/black with a very large creamy light brown head. Thick sticky lacing almost like merangue. The aroma is fantastic ! Lightly smokey but full of milk chocolate, a little cinamon, vannilla and a touch of nutty esspresso. Dellicious.
Flavors are not the let down that some of these great smelling porters are for me. Less of the sweetness here and more of the expected dark roast, slightly bitter smokiness. Fairly thin porter like feel but smooth. Fairly dry finish
Thanks to Pailhead for this, my new favorite Porter.

12 oz. bottle courtesy of Pailhead. a rich chocolatey & coffee aroma rise up to greet the nostrils. a superb looking porter with the customary dark black pour and quickly fading tan head that shrinks to a coating of lace. Unfortunately, for me, this one starts to fall a little short from here. the mouthfeel while almost silky, just never quite gets to medium-bodied and the lingering bitter coffee flavor is tough to overcome. out of the 6 Founders brews I’ve rated to date, this is the only one I’m not crazy about.

(Bottle) Pours a black body with a large light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt and vanilla. Flavor of roasted malt, silky smooth chocolate, and coffee.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Styles (2014) - Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA - AUG 4, 2005
Pours black with beige head. Dark roasted grain aroma, with hints of coffee and cocoa. Flavor has a little too much coffee for my liking, but enough grainand malt to balance it out somewhat. Finishes very dry.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Odeed (1751) - Bakersfield, California, USA - JUL 24, 2005
Thanks to pailhead for the bonus brew. This porter pours a beautiful black with a huge 2 inch brown head. as the head sat it left nice webbing on the glass. I gathered subtle aromas of nuts, chocolate, malts, and acidity. The flavor was much of the same with the acid a bit more prevelant. This is very tasty stuff.i have not had a founders brew I have not liked yet.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Pailhead (3859) - Brownstown, Michigan, USA - MAY 24, 2005
Bottle: Lots of dark chocolate in the aroma with some roasted coffee and slight vanilla. Pours a dark brown that barely has some lighter brown hilights. Flavor is roasted coffee with a cream and chocolate balance. Roasted coffee is strongest in the finish with just a touch of dark chocolate.
4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 hopscotch (8217) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - APR 24, 2005
Bottle... This beer rocks!... Pitch black ale with a sizeable, tan head. Chocolate, pistachio & vanilla nose. Chocolate, prune and molasses flavor while shying away from the typically associated sweetness. Full-bodied and silky with mild carbonation. Lengthy, coffee/chocolate finish. Another world class brew from Founders!

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 beerbuzzmontreal (3490) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 14, 2005
UPDATED: JAN 12, 2007 Pours a murky dark brown color with yeast in suspension and a ring of light brown lace around the glass. Strong and very appealing aroma of chocolate and roasted malt. Excellent flavor of rich, luscious roasted malt and chocolate, bitter finish. Medium body, creamy and dry texture, soft carbonation. Very good.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Rastacouere (6045) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 14, 2005
Typical dark brown body wears a faint tan head. Rich dark malt aroma emanates from the bottle. Sweet coffeish nature is enhanced by a beany vegetal profile that fits well. Fitting generous, yet smooth roastiness reveals chocolatey and mellow vanilla undertones. Perfect porter mouthfeel, soft yet supported carbonation. Cocoa and chocolate interplays are accompanied by a light dose of lactic acid, well contained surprisingly. Ample hops fortunately do not create a spoiling citric aspect. Suggestion of smokle and beans add to its charms. I do pretty much agree with what’s been said already, this is a top quality porter, were I judging based on style, this would get close to full marks besides appearance, but I’m not and porters rarely excite me. I do appreciate the balance and texture, but it’s not a beer I would go far with.
