3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
bottle shared with Tronraner. Pours a really dark hue, near black, with nearly no head. The aroma is very roasty and bittersweet. I feel like I can almost chew the smell alone. Raisins, dark chocolate, earth, and faint hops. Man, this stuff is so chewy. Tons of chewy, earthy, dark fruits; dark chocolate. The finish is bittersweet and dry. This is super porter.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle courtesy TheCheeseman. Pours black with a thin off white head. Nice roasted grain and dark cherry aroma, not overpowering and very nice. Roasted grain, chocolate malt, coffee and dark fruit taste. Very nice light body with a hint of coffee in the finish. A stunningly good porter.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Lots of flavor in this porter, but what makes it even better is the smooth, creamy body. Small tan head atop a deep, very dark brown-black body. Head diminished fairly quickly. The aroma is full of rosted malt, dark chocolate, black coffee and toffee. There are hints of floral hops, but only hints. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. But the finish revs up the bitterness to moderate leaving tastes of bitter chocolate, espresso with a hint of vanilla and molasses. The result is a nice balance between sweet and bitter. The finish is also dry, but avoids the metallic flavor found in many porters and stouts. Medium body with a creamy texture and low carbonation. This gets high marks on drinkability alone. Nicely done.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
This stuff is awesome, glad to see it back in the regular line up. Pours pitch black with a thick chocolate head. Deep roasted grain aroma with the Founderís house character. Great coffee/burnt flavor with quite a bit of bitterness. I could drink this stuff all day long!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours black with brown tint, minimal brown head, and moderate lacing. Huge chocolate aroma with some coffee. Malty rich body, extremely smooth. Lots of chocolate and robust rich malt with a pleasant hoppy kick at the end. Very good porter.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
bottle - Pours black with a thin dark tan head. The assertive roast malt aroma is rich with coffee. The flavor has sweet roast malt with coffee and dark chocolate notes backed by a generous quantity of hops. It has a well hopped, espresso-like finish. Excellent porter. Itís one of the best youíll find.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: OCT 8, 2011 12oz bottle. Pours dark brown/black with a medium tan head. Aroma of roasted malts and dark chocolate. The flavor adds notes of coffee and a surprising hop bitterness. Amazingly smooth, creamy, and thin on the palate. Very drinkable. This is an amazing porter... the best Iíve ever had.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Picked up a six-pack today from Champaneís in Warren, MI for $7.99, quite a deal! Poured into a tulip glass, came out black as night with a rich tan head. Left a nice sticky lacing on the side of the glass. Aroma of dark bitter chocolate and roast coffee. Taste of espresso and chocolate. Rich and smooth mouthfeel, pretty creamy but thin enough to differentiate it from a stout. Great beer!

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled. Poured deep brown with a creamy initial cap of tan head. The aroma was on the sweeter side with chocolate, caramel, and molasses represented.. roast was moderate.. vanilla and warm woodsy hoppage showed with warmth. The flavor was a bit more hoppy in character with woodsy and earthy bitterness standing out over bakerís chocolate, molasses, and lesser coffee.. vanilla again showed on the edges.. finished moderately bitter with earthy notes, chocolate, and caramel. Medium-bodied on the palate with an interesting contrast between sweeter malts and bitterness.. long finish with more sweetness and hoppage. Solid brew.

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2009
1/23/2009: If anything, Founderís Porter definitely has a "dark, rich & sexy" appearance. The rich, dark, chocolate brown liquid has a really smooth and sexy pour from the bottle. There is a small tan head that coats the surface. The roasty aroma contains rich dark chocolate and smooth coffee. The flavor is also quite roasty, but is has a softness to it that is unexpected and welcomed. There is a really rich, dark chocolate flavor, cocoa, and the finish is much like espresso. This beer has a medium-full body and is smooth and a bit creamy on the palate. Overall this is an excellent robust porter that is bursting with wonderful flavor, has a fair amount of depth, and is very satisying!
12 fl. oz. short twist-off bottle (45 IBUís, 6.5% Alc. by Vol.) from Tmoney99. Thank you! I appreciate it. Rating #144 for this beer.
