4.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 oobawa (549) - South Carolina, USA - MAY 17, 2011
I’m not sure what caused it, but I’m madly in love with Founder’s Porter. I believe this beer to be the worlds best, honest Porter, my ultimate go-to bottle. Bittersweet and rich yet light on the palate, this brew drinks frighteningly easy, disappearing from the glass too quickly for rational thought to hold out much longer. Java-encrusted roasted malts are followed by a hoppy bite that leads to a dry, dark chocolate fade. Whenever I get the inevitable "What’s your favorite beer" question, this sixer provides a quick-n-easy answer. (2/17/09) NOTE: No more Founders in SC. Thanks to the brewery for giving our state a shot. Maybe next time things will go better on our end.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 neuromatt (610) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 15, 2011
12 oz bottle from Chevy Chase Wine & Spirits in Washington DC, served in a tulip. Pours deep black with a small tan head. The head fades slowly to a thin remnant and leaves a small amount of lace. The nose has big chocolate and roasty notes, along with earth, smoke, and a hint of barnyard. The flavour is dry and roasty, with plenty of coffee, smoke and herbal hops. The finish is long, dry and roasty. On the palate, it is medium in body with a dry texture and soft carbonation. Overall, an excellent porter with a dry, roasty character and a nice earthy, herbal hop profile. I wish I had another bottle. 2011-05-15
