08-APR-2011, bottle @Sonni, @Ulkløbben tasting, from "Fish & Beer".
Dark, dark brown with beige head.
Nose is coffee, just faint coffee and other roasted notes.
Taste is very roasted with quite some hops.
Coffee, turns sweet espresso, ending bitter in a long bitter coffee taste.
Quite bitter with no alcohol(!)
I like porter. This is not the easiest one...
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 sherm1016 (480) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - MAY 5, 2011
12oz bottle from Discount Liquor Milwaukee. Pours a dark brown color with a tan head and minimal lacing. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malt, a little coffee. Medium to heavy body on the palate with average carbonation. Flavor is sweet and bitter, roasty, chocolate, with a clean, bitter finish. Excellent.
4.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 TheChampion (81) - Virginia, USA - MAY 2, 2011
Pours a very dark brown with a medium milk chocolate head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, hay and grass. Tastes of dark chocolate, coffee, caramel, dark fruits, and hops. Medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation. Amazing porter.
3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 JDBaker11058 (616) - Maryland, USA - MAY 1, 2011
Appearance: very dark brown, nearly opaque, tiny mocha head with a little lace. Aroma: almost completely chocolate, with some coffee notes. Taste: blast of acidic coffee up front, then bitter melted baker’s chocolate. Finish: chalky dry, with roasty burnt coffee and bittersweet dark chocolate lingering. Notes: Pretty good porter, obviously. I only had two bones to pick: the blast of almost lactic acidity before the good roasty coffee and chocolate flavors kicked it, and the overly prickly palate. Still a good porter, but I probably did it no favors by having a Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald immediately before.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Veldrid (120) - Canton, Ohio, USA - MAY 1, 2011
Almost black pour with tan head. Aroma is chocolate and roasted coffee. The flavor is a smoky roast note complemented by a sweet chocolate character. Solid porter and something that I keep in my fridge regularly.

Bottle. Pours black with a small beige head. Coffee beans and milk chocolate notes in the aroma. Coffee, a touch of chocolate, lots of caramel and a little smoke in the taste. Most of all coffee. Medium dry. Quite smooth and creamy texture. Well balanced. Elegant.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Nickls (1297) - SE DC, Washington DC, USA - APR 25, 2011
Tap. Darker tan head with curtains of lacing, dark mahogany color. Lots of roasted malt in the aroma along with dark chocolate. Roasty qualities really dominate the flavor, bit of smoke, dark chocolate, and some dark fruits to round it out with a tiny bit of hop coming in. Drier finish, on a medium to heavier body. Nice.
