That’s a good porter. It’s not a stout - but it’s not a dark colored brown ale. It’s a porter. Rich and complex. Roasty.... sure, roasty. Roasty, toasty, delicious the mosty - no need to boasty.

Black body, dark brown huge creamy head. Malty, roasted and strong coffee aroma. Overwhelming syrupy full palate. Dark bitter chocolate, mousse and again very potent coffee flavour. Wow.

Black and thick pour with little head. who-boy, lovely aroma. Roasted malts, dark, ripe fruits, chocolate, molasses, earthy, milk, light vanilla. Medium, full body with nice tiny dancing carbonation. Flavor is packed full of those delicious roasted and chocolate malts, light burnt malt, a touch of molasses, and faint vanilla. Great porter. A real winner.

UPDATED: FEB 1, 2011 355ml. Lumpy, 100% pitch with an uneven, shrinking manila head haloed with white- an odd effect I’ve never seen before. Aromas lush, raisiny high cocoa chocolate melted on burnt toast, blackcurrant, blueberry; some strawberry and vanilla tones peeping through the blackness. Huge, mouth-filing palate like a rich chocolate mousse; flavour all about luxuriously bitter, high cocoa chocolate but with a lovely, softening streak of blackcurrant and plum running under it. Still-smoking charcoal, lemon dabbed sparingly on barely edible, burnt (English) pancakes. Deep, inky, highly drinkable stuff with a fullness and pungency leaning towards the imperial even at 6.5%. Impressive.

Human eyes were not meant to penetrate the stygian blackness of this eldrich concoction. If not attenuated by a pale corpselike head of pillowy foam, that abysmal darkness would drive mortal man mad. Complex congeries of roasted coffee, caramel, and chocolate conspire to bewitch the mind. Just a touch bitter on the finish.

Bottle from beermerchants.com A black coloured pour with a small beige head. Pleasing roasty, coffee aroma. Tastes of chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, dark fruit, very rich. A top quality porter from one of my favourite breweries.
