Dark, Rich, and Sexy. Chocolate malts and four varieties of hops make this a very full flavored ale.

A great porter. How did it take so long? Anyway, bottle thanks to FlandersNed. Pours a pure black color with a very large thick beige/brown head. The aroma is sweet chocolates, roasted malts, sweet coffee, earthy. The flavor is charred chocolates, roasted malts, sweet milky flavors, light metallic hops linger in the background. A smooth milky flavor with ashy sides dominates. Just delicious, Reminds me a bit of Sam Smith’s Oatmeal Stout- and I love that beer.

UPDATED: JAN 18, 2011 Tap sample at New Beer Dist. Certainly deserves the praise. Pours pitch black with a strong, tan head. Big nose of coffee and chocolate. Flavor is rich and layered, sweet and bitter. Nice burnt malt character with adequate sweetness. Plenty of mocha. Tail holds some bitterness. Very roasty finish. Quite smooth and well-bodied. Delicious. Update: Had a full pint at Mugs Ale House tonight. Yeah, just multiply everything above by three. This is the best porter I have ever had.

12 oz bottle @ Brickskellers in DC. Pours black, nice brown head and nice lacing to boot. Aroma and flavor like any other porter- but better. Little hop at the end is a nice touch. Nice and creamy. Sadly I had to compare this to Bell’s Kalamazoo, which I drank just before this one... I guess I’ve been in tougher predicaments before... Great beer.

Warm smoke and chocolate on the nose. Subtle though. Almost campfire like. Dark with a medium flat and lasting head. Taste is of chocolate with bitterness biting. Some smoke. A good porter.

Yup, this is a beauty. Pours next to black with a creamy pancake floating on top. Nice lacing. Smells of crushed rock and roasted coffee beans. Full and chewy on the palate with creamy carbonation. This is a meal unto itself. This drinks more like a Foreign Stout.

12oz bottle. Pours very dark brown - almost black - with a moderate but short-lived tan head that leaves huge swaths of lace all over the glass. The aroma is a wonderfully deep chocolate with notes of fresh toasted bread (like freshly ground light roast coffee beans) and an subtle and sublime earthiness. The flavor starts full of chocolate with bittersweet notes that include vinous barley malt tang as well as heavily sweetened dark roasted coffee - vaguely reminiscent of espresso sweetened with Frangelico (though not really so hazelnutty). The finish is full towards the back of the palate and then turns to dryness as it finally rolls into the gullet. Lots of chocolate character, but no burnt or acrid character at all - very smooth and fairly sweet as well, with some subtle bitter flavors of ethanol creeping in. The aftertaste is malty with lots of chocolate. The mouthfeel is quite creamy and full-bodied - luxurious but for notes of thinness around the edges of the mouth. The carbonation is fairly soft and provides just enough levity to make it feel fluffy and creamy. Overall, a very well-done porter - quite drinkable. Were it a little drier and a little less sweet, it would be even better.

Draught. Poured dark with small tan head. More of a sweet stout almost. Chocolate and malts etc. Pretty good.

Pint at Rattle n Hum. This is one big boy of a porter. Many stouts are thinner and less robust than this sucker. Pour is outstanding black with frothy beige head. Mouth feel is full, but thinly carbonated. Loaded with espresso, dark chocolate and a nice hop sting in the finish. This is probably the best porter I’ve had, if not.. 2nd for sure.

UPDATED: MAY 7, 2010 Re-rate. The aroma is a chocolate, roasty, earthy. The appearance is true to the style, deep brown, white head. The flavor is chocolate, roasty, coffee. Medium/thick in body, creamy mouthfeel. Roasty finish. Decent porter.
