COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pours silky black with a creamy tan head. The nose is sweet with strong chocolate and caramel malt presence. No absence of hops gives Foundersí robust porter the full flavor you deserve and expect. Cozy like velvet. Itís a lover, not a fighter.

Pros: Above average malt structure with some complexity. Nice looking beer especially for being a dead beer.

Cons: Nose isnít offensive, but is really dull and void of character. Seems really dead. Lacks purity and richness. Thin mouth feel. Finish is short. Not alive.

I was expecting a better ale.

Really surprising that I havenít rated this one. It strikes me as heavier than a typical porter, and has a great mouthfeel. Roasted and plenty of chocolate. Obvious burnt notes. Popular at the tasting I hosted. Bottle.

Aroma of oak, dark coco, and coffee. Taste is the same, maybe a little cola taste. Oily slick feel on the palate.

Tap at Imperial Bottle Shop, post CBC A: Pitch black with a creme ring of head. N: Coffee, cocoa, biscuit, some vanilla, and a hearty woodiness. Peppercorn and earth. T: Sweet, roasty body, with solid bitterness to balance. M: Light body, creamy carbonation, no alcohol presence. O: Quintessential porter. This is a proper go-to, along with the Imperial Stout, for Founders, IMO.

Bottle from Hannaford Exeter NH. Aroma is earthy, burnt toast, chocolate, coffee, cheese. Appearance is opaque black with thin, light brown creamy head with apparent but minimal lacing. Taste is balance of moderate coffee bitterness with mild sweetness. Palate is full bodied with creamy texture, and perfect amount of carbonation and long bitter finish.

Bottle - 355ml. Totally opaque black body with a thin, lasting, beige foamy head. Fantastic, complex malty/hoppy aroma with chocolate, vanilla, woody, and roasted coffee hints. Its perfectly balanced malty/hoppy taste carries roasty, coffeeish, and cocoa notes. Ends with a robust bittersweet finish. Awesome!

12 oz bottle into tulip. Appearance is black with decent light tan head which disappears fairly quickly leaving good amount of lacing. Aroma is malty with notes of nuts and toast. Taste is very lightly sweet with an extremely lightly bitter, smooth finish. Notes of coffee, roasted malts and some earthiness. Some caramel. Maybe a slight note of wood. One of the most flavorful robust porters I have had. But yet it seems to maintain the character of a porter without crossing the line of being a stout. Very very good beer. Regularly available.
