Pours silky black with a creamy tan head. The nose is sweet with strong chocolate and caramel malt presence. No absence of hops gives Founders’ robust porter the full flavor you deserve and expect. Cozy like velvet. It’s a lover, not a fighter.

Pours an opaque darkest brown almost black. Quickly gone half finger tan head, but think the pour wasn’t exactly spot on. Very little lacing, spotty. Getting dark coffee in the nose and something reminding me of Belgian ales I have not liked in the past. The aroma pretty much ends there...maybe some earthiness but that may be something on my fingers. I’m getting like a sort of nutty earth and rubbery cheap candybar in the taste, super thin in the mouth, little oily, sticks around too long with that peanut butter aftertaste thing going on. And on third/fourth sip I’m getting like a heavy sharp dose of medicinal alcohol and is that a dark fruit creeping in? Not bad, not great, a porter, but not what I’m looking for in a porter. Founders has yet to impress me, the Dirty Bastard Scotch Ale was much on the same level. Meh.

Pours brown with no head at all. A nice aroma mix of roasted nuts and coffee and light bitter hops. Taste is perfectly balanced and complex. First some toasted malt followed by herbally hoppiness mixed caramel and chocolate. Really great!

Bottle courtesy of Geraint and Helen, (big thanks to you two!) Consumed at home Sunday 22nd November 2015 Some dark fruits and a little cocoa on the nose. Pitch black on the pour with a tan head. Middling bitterness but good dash of chocolate and coffee, some sweetness, a little dark sticky fruit. A very drinkable no nonsense porter. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov15 3.7

Una buona porter, equilibrata e saporita, con i classici sentori di malto, cacao e caffè. Non è la mia birra, ma è più che emblematica.

Pours black with dense clingy caramel head. Sweet caramel bouquet. Incredibly silky mouth feel, with a cacophany of flavours swirling on the palate. Chocolate, coffee, vanilla, caramel, charcoal all separate then recombine on the finish which morphs into sticky date for the finale.

Dark, dark brown with a thin tan head. Roasted malt, coffee, chocolate aromas. Taste is fairly similar, mocha, a little vanilla, slightly bitter at the end, creamy, just want more of it. Bloody good.
