2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Pours an opaque darkest brown almost black. Quickly gone half finger tan head, but think the pour wasnít exactly spot on. Very little lacing, spotty. Getting dark coffee in the nose and something reminding me of Belgian ales I have not liked in the past. The aroma pretty much ends there...maybe some earthiness but that may be something on my fingers.
Iím getting like a sort of nutty earth and rubbery cheap candybar in the taste, super thin in the mouth, little oily, sticks around too long with that peanut butter aftertaste thing going on. And on third/fourth sip Iím getting like a heavy sharp dose of medicinal alcohol and is that a dark fruit creeping in? Not bad, not great, a porter, but not what Iím looking for in a porter. Founders has yet to impress me, the Dirty Bastard Scotch Ale was much on the same level. Meh.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Well, no matter how much porters you drink, and how many times you thought that some porter is absolutely incredible, when you try this beer again, itís still the best.
Well, when i tried it, I thought itís the same feeling like when i tried my first beer in life. Absolute happiness and magic. Probably the best porter ever.
Incredible structure, hints of alcohol, but in a great way. Roasted malts, caramel, coffee, chocolate, vanilla, dried fruit (or something like plum). Itís not to sweet, itís not to bitter, itís perfect balanced. Love it!

4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
So unbelievably good. Rich, smooth, with a deep vein of coffee and chocolate malts followed by a bitter but reconcilable fade. Iíve raved about this beer on so many different forums and sites I no longer know how to expound its glory without sounding insane. Worth the funny looks from people unnerved by my exuberance. Beer at its apex. Comfort in a bottle. Proof that inner peace is attainable.

Porters are not usually my thing, but this is simply a delicious example of the style.
Love the chocolate notes and it just slips down so easily. Best black beer Iíve had.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle pours coffee-black with a lush tan, persistent head. Bittersweet chocolate and chicory nose, creamy, full-body palate with fresh carbonation from start to finish. Overall, excellent balance, not cloying at all, an outstanding job.
