Dark, Rich, and Sexy. Chocolate malts and four varieties of hops make this a very full flavored ale.

MaltOne (185) - Wisconsin, USA - DEC 4, 2012
Pours dark chocolate brown with medium, expresso-foam colored head that recedes gradually to light lacing on glass and surface. Toasty aromas. The effect is that this is a beer of substance, stature. Deep roasted notes, a coffee-like, dry bitterness, a hint of sour, with caramelized grains. Itís chewy, like a black bread, leaving the tonque with lingering entertainment. It can be sipped and savored. Though itís substantial, itís not heavy. Founderís does it again. (I had this years ago, but had not rated it - my bother declared this to be his daily afterwork reward, so I had to resample.)

airrick2003 (415) - Louisiana, USA - APR 23, 2014
Appearance: This beer pours with a smaller tan head that dissipates in a couple minutes, the beer itself is black with some very small brown edges in the light Aroma: coffee, dark grain, perhaps some bread, not particularly complex or intensely aromatic but not bad or dull either, I guess average Taste: chocolate, coffee, some bitterness on the finish, not too sweet, Palate: soft carbonation, very thick and heavy mouthfeel, average bitter aftertaste Overall: I donít think this beer is bad but I donít think it lives up to itís rating either, a little too simple, average

Drat - Roast malts and dark chocolate. Jet dark brown with a thin brown head. Roast malts with some molasses. Decent, but nothing special.

ronaldtheriot (1105) - Laplace, Louisiana, USA - APR 20, 2014
Founders Porter has a medium-to-thick, beige head, an extremely dark brown appearance, and a touch, here and there, of lacing left behind. The aroma is rich, sweet, dark-roasted malt, coffee, cream, and chocolate. Taste is of the same, with significant acidity and bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy and slick, and Founders Porter finishes semi-dry, delicious, and super-drinkable. Just a great, great beer. RJT

Nose is slightly fudgy, black heavy roast coffee, extremely rich. Flavor is same. Practically an imperial stout from the aroma and flavor profile, truly a remarkable beer loaded with flavor for this ABV and style.

Bottle. Pours almost black with a small dense beige head. Dark chocolate, roasted malt, fresh coffee and raisins in aroma. Dark chocolate, cocoa powder, coffee, well balanced bitterness. Dry mouth feel, medium body, medium carbonation. Dry bitter coffee after taste.
Solid porter! This is how I like them. Like Black Butte but a bit thicker.

Getting some chocolate and bitterness. Nice rich dark colour. Great beer to sit on through a movie. Probably wouldnít have more than one.

I awoke to the sound of thunder. Total darkness. Blackness surrounded me. Against my better judgment I was drawn to the outside. Oak trees towered over the smokey campfire, now damp from the rain. As the water washed over me I thought of my father, when he smoked a pipe when I was young. Pitch black. Morning may never come...

Tasted on tap. Very strong 2-note flavors; decent chocolate and some savory umami.
