sneagrams3 (1200), St. Louis, Missouri, USA May 10, 2008 Tasted 4/27/08. 4oz pour from the brewpub. Dark brown hue. Webbed beige head. Cola coffee aromas with notes of toffee and toast. Full bodied with a rich roast. Bitter with caramel malts. Nice roast. Sticky pitch root flavor. Fudgy. Good malt roast. Solid bitterness in the finish. Totally delicious brew! kmweaver (1552), Takoma Park, Maryland, USA May 8, 2008 Growler, via artusory. Thanks, Ryan! Pours a very dark, slightly oily chocolate brown; medium brown head with solid retention and fine-bubbled lacing, coating the glass; great pour. Lots of chocolate, cocoa, and even some caramel in the aroma; very pleasant; no chalkiness, just dark chocolate and a bit of mineral bitterness. I could drink the entire batch of this: medium-to-full mouthfeel: oily, velvety presence in the mouth; perfect mouthfeel; chocolate, cocoa, and zesty mineral bitterness without the slightest astringency or chalkiness; beautifully done beer: generous, chocolatey, and incredibly drinkable. I can’t think of a better example of the style that I’ve had; even something like Olfabrikken goes so far it becomes something beyond a standard porter; this is, in contrast, for me, an archtype of the style. Lengthy finish: toasty malts, chocolate, and cocoa; balanced, slightly oily end. A gorgeous freaking beer. Rciesla (132), Brick City, New Jersey, USA May 1, 2008 Draft at founders.
