12 oz. bottle courtesy of Pailhead. a rich chocolatey & coffee aroma rise up to greet the nostrils. a superb looking porter with the customary dark black pour and quickly fading tan head that shrinks to a coating of lace. Unfortunately, for me, this one starts to fall a little short from here. the mouthfeel while almost silky, just never quite gets to medium-bodied and the lingering bitter coffee flavor is tough to overcome. out of the 6 Founders brews I’ve rated to date, this is the only one I’m not crazy about.

12oz bottle. black with no bubbles. small, creamy, brown head. coffee, milk chocolate aroma. a medium bodied porter with a silky palate. flavor is heavy on the creamed coffee and milk chocolate. leaves a nice long, lingering roast flavor. a realy nice go-to porter from founders. supposedly it stays stocked year round. hope so. i wish the palate was just a bit fuller though.

12 oz bottle, from miketd. Pours a very dark brown body with a nice one finger frothy dark brown head that left some nice lacing. Great depth to the nose, lots of milk and bitter chocolate, roast, coffee, licorice, and a good bit of hops as well. The hops grab me up front with dry roasty and chocolate malt taking over towards the back end. A good deal of licorice and burnt malt lingering. I like this, but it’s not among my favorite Porters. Too roasty and burnt, I want something more chocolaty and less hoppy. Mouthfeel is is medium bodied with a very dry, almost ashy feel to it. And to think that I wanted this for so long? It’s a bit of a disappointment.

Thick black dark tan head, bitter chocolate and licorice aroma. Dark roasted malts, pine hops, and dark chocolate on the palate. More pine cone hop finish. Not as thick as the aroma would indicate but still very rich and tasty.

Aroma is chocolate, a touch of smoke, dark malts, cocoa, and sugar.
Appearance is rich mahogany with no real head to speak of.
Taste is thin chocolate, some maltiness, sourness, and smoke (also umami).
Finish is sweet and smooth. Very faint hop presence.
Drinkable and true to style

12oz bottle from Crossroads Beer & Wine, Burlington, MA. A really dark, black, pour with a creamy looking tan head; aroma of strong black coffee and chocolate malts; surprisingly light in the mouth, without being thin, some coffee and red fruit mingle with the richly roasted malts and demerara sugar; before a dry, warming, finish with light peppery hops and some smooth, milky, chocolate. A rather good porter, but I prefer a slightly heavier body.
