Dark, Rich, and Sexy. Chocolate malts and four varieties of hops make this a very full flavored ale.

More than a porter should be. Great chocolate taste, sweet with no hip or other bitter after taste. Light brown head leaves nicely on the glass. Has the mouth feel of a stout.

Pours (near) black with a thin tan head. Aroma: plain chocolate, coffee grounds, roasted malts, caramel. Taste: dominant coffee notes, chocolate, dark fruits. Slight smokiness in the dry, bitter finish. Smooth & oily on the palate. Excellent porter - flavourful, robust, balanced.

Bottle. What surprised me most about this porter is the taste of hops that prevails over most typical porters, which can be too strong on the coffee flavor. There is a coffee smell, but it doesn’t dominate the taste. I could pour this over ice cream and be just as happy.

12 ounce bottle into signature pint glass, bottled on 5/8/2013. Pours pitch black color with a 1 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, roasted malt, coffee, toast, floral, light pine, and roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of roasted malt notes with light hop presence; and good strength. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, caramel, toast, floral, light pine, and roasted earthiness. Moderate coffee/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, toast, caramel, light pine, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic balance and complexity of roasted malt flavors with a light-moderate hop presence; with great robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very creamy and lightly slick mouthfeel that is very nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a highly excellent porter! Great balance and robustness of flavors; and very smooth to drink. A highly enjoyable offering as expected.

5 oz. flight draft at Malted Barley in Westerly RI. Sexy looking beer, jet black with a nice tan head, good lacing. Smell is great. Baker’s chocolate, caramel, hops and coffee. Taste is just as good, chocolate and sweet caramel in the foreground and coffee in the background, plus a nice hop presence in the finish. Combination of sweetness and bitterness stays with you between sips. Palate is pleasant, not overly thick, very drinkable. Founders is fairly new to me and the more of their products I try the more respect I have for them. Great beer, give it a whirl!

Black colour with a thin chocolatey beige head. Aroma is dark fruit, chocolate, coffee and roasted malt. Taste is lightly sweet, with a bit of a sour almost salty finish and light bitterness, Medium duration.. Medium-full body with a slick texture and light carbonation. Was hoping for a bit of a thicker texture and a bit more on the tongue and palate, but still a good beer.

Yeah yeah, very good. Well done Founders. 100 no. But ya, I can’t grumble - accomplished and effective and interesting and opulent and umbrella.

12 oz bottle. Pours very dark brown, almost black with a small, thin beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and coffee. Creamy and rich with chocolate and coffee taste. Very smooth and alcohol is well hidden. This is very nice and an excellent Porter.
