kieleszd (82), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Jun 6, 2008 Had a taste and left with a growler. Has great body for a porter with rich malts and light hops. Pours a great chocolate head that will leave you licking your lips till the end. Some notes of coffee and caramel make it both rich and bold. A true American Porter.
nbutler11 (108), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jul 23, 2008 Poured like molasses from the tap with a trim head of tan foam. Mildly bitter with hops, coffee, and cocoa. Very direct and successful. drewbeerme (1782), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 6, 2008 on tap at Founders brewpub. pours black with off white head. nose is roasty, chocolately. flavor is roasty, milk chocolate, dry finish with a nice piney hop character. nice grassy and pine hop finish. really tasty porter, why don’t they still bottle this? Glouglouburp (1918), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jul 4, 2008 In short: Typical but above average Porter. Good beer.
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Black body with a little beige ring of foam
In long: Lots of dark malts, light-medium roastiness level, A few figs dipped in a black chocolate. Those dudes at Founders really know how to pack a whole lot of malts in a beer. Nicely hopped too. Nothing new but this was a damn fine porter. Sometimes you don’t need to re-invent the wheel to get impressive results, you just need to put big shinny 15” mags on them. mdm46410 (545), Griffith, Indiana, USA Jul 2, 2008 On tap at Founders and served in an English pint glass. This beer poured a deep, dark black with a thin head of tan foam that quickly settled into a lasting cap. Decent lacing. The aroma of the beer was made up of heavily roasted malts, bittersweet chocolate, coffee, and also some pine and citrus. The flavor included bittersweet chocolate, lightly bitter coffee, and a nice citrus hop finish. Tasty! The mouthfeel was medium-bodied with minimal carbonation and highly drinkable. A really nice porter. wickedpete (555), Lexington Park, Maryland, USA Jun 15, 2008 Thanks to Ryan for this one. Dark black body, creamy brown head. Aromas of licorice, chocolate, lightly roasted coffee. Flavor is bitter bakers chocolate, dry and roasted. Body is light but not thin.
