3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle: Falkenstein brought it from MO; a solid Porter, but my preferred style. Food Pairing: Pastel Chocolate Tóxico from Chef Andre.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours an amazingly oily and rich black with a high cinnamon head. Nose is Mexican hot chocolate, espresso, and bacon. Crisp but very dark and smoky; bitterness is cleansing with a long, lemon-coffee finish. Not as heavy as it looks. Quite nice.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
From tap. Pours dark, almost black. Thin, taupe head. Aroma is peat and wet stone. Very clean and even tasting. Chalky, with faint sweetness. Mineral, with a shade of smoke at the end. Very well done.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at Founder’s Beer dinner. Pours midnight black with reddish/brown bordering. Not much head. Aroma is light coffee and chocolate. Taste is the same but rounded out with deep caramel malt. Heavy on the palate for a medium-bodied beer. Well made but it made me want the Breakfast stout since the latter is an overload of the ingredients in the former.

Huge chocolate, coffee, and earthy hop aroma. Taste strong coffee and dark chocolate with a bitter dry finish.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
This was an amazing beer experience. Cola looking brew with a slightly off-white head. Potent aromas of fresh cocoa and some coffee. Tastes of cocoa nibs, bittersweet chocolate(lots of it), subtle dark coffee, toasted malts, and hints of earthiness. Semi-sweet, lactic finish. Extremely easy to drink, silky smooth, and delicious. This was fantastic.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 ounce bottle. Opaque black color with a small bubbly tan head. Rich roasted malt aroma has notes of charcoal and French roast coffee. First sip yields a bittersweet, smoky roasted malt flavor that touches on dark coffee, chocolate and oak. Very close to being stout-like, but the nuances are more subtle, as you would expect in a porter. Slightly sweet, complex and spicy in mid taste. Finish is nutty, woody and rich with resiny hops. This is a truly great American Porter in a league with Great Lakes and Anchor, among others. A must have.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Pours a Black Tarry Colour.
Aroma. Smells of roasted malts, bitter chocolate and coffee.
Taste. Extremely rich and decadent, taste is similar to aroma, with a bitter espresso flavour especially pronounced throughout, with slight notes of toffee and some vanilla in the background.
Overall. A very decent beer certainly not for the faint hearted, very smooth and powerful throughout.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Poured from growler into tulip glass. Dark thick pour with one finger of dense tan head. Small rising bubbles reminds me of Guinness. Aroma is roasty malt, dark chocolate, coffee, nuts, raisin, a hint of smoke. Taste is very much the same. Full mouthfeel, thick, creamy, somewhat sticky. A nice bit of carbonation here. Nice long bitter finish. I think of porters as a bit sweeter than this. If I didn’t know what it was, I would guess it to be a stout. Extremely good overall though!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Look: Pours with large, mocha head, fine small bubbles with some bigger ones in the middle. Good, steady, slow, creamy retention with sticky lacing. Nice, fat layer stays on top. Surprisingly some carbonation visible. Dark, dark with brown hue. Very nice, especially the retention.
Smell: Dark, milk chocolate mix, roast and light coffee. Hint of caramel and some noble freshness. Fat, rich on the nose receptors. There is one note i can’t really put my finger on, like a bit too oily (olive) burned bread crust you put on salad, in soups and shit like that.
Taste: Smell roughly translates. Roasted, very solid middle malt medium sweetness. Dark and milk chocolate and very light caramel. Good roast bitterness goes into coffee with a hint of hops and sweetness - a nice touch at the end.
Mouthfeel: Smooth, creamy, full body. Very nice. Carbonation noticeable but just the right amount. One of the biggest traits of this beer.
Overall: Sexy. Yea, why not. Mouthfeel is exceptional, the dark malt character is well developed and rich enough and that hint of fresh sweetness makes it a superb brew.
