Draft on tap at the brewery (Grand Rapids, MI). Pours a deep roasty blackish pour, darker near opaque middle shows some ruby brown edges and bottom. A frothy light brown head dies to a mellow ring, laces pretty well. Aromas present a decent to medium vanilla bean, gentle creaminess. Subtle roast, toast, and toffee. A touch of coffee and cream, mellow milk chocolate and caramel. Nice and creamy. Initial is lighter end of the fold in body, offering some gentle vanilla, touches of cream, bread and biscuits. Cleaner smoothness, not very thick, instead offering a more sessionable feel. Middle is a bit more vanilla, gentle biscuit, some toasty roasty elements as we round the corner. A gentle dryness, almost a fuzzy feel into the backend. Bready, gentle carmelized toasty feel mixes with a mellow sweetness. Smaller body makes this quite drinkable, but a bit more tame than the nose presented which was quite lovely. Gentle vanilla summer stout and at only 4.6 ABV, I totally get that. Quite enjoyed. Nose promises something a big bigger and brooding, thicker and sweet but ends up being lighter, quite drinkable.
