Pours a spectacular crimson red with a creamy tan head. Brewed with four varieties of Belgian caramel malts imparting a sweet richness. Reds Rye is impressively balanced with its hop bitterness and floral bouquet achieved from the dry hop. In the finish, the generous amount of malted rye used accentuates a spicy crisp finish.

Bottled - winter seasonal. On tap - year-round.

Note: Formerly Redís Rye P.A.

Discount Liquors, Milwaukee, WI., 12 oz bottle. Still trying to figure out rye beers - but if they all taste like this keep making íem! Pours a dark copper color with an everlasting off-white colored head which lasts all day and thick creamy lacing. Fresh floral aroma with sweet nectarine hints. Delectable flavor which has the usual grapefruity hoppiness, but subdued, mellowed and rounded to a syrupy sweet concoction. Hints of caramel and mint make their appearance to make a weel rounded IPA. Creamy smooth mouthfeel, leaves you thirsting for more. Excellent American Strong Ale (or Rye!).

Pour was a nice golden amber color. Nose filled with a wonderful mix of huge hops and rye. Taste is simlar but malts kick in to give it a superb mouthfeel. I really enjoyed this badboy.

UPDATED: NOV 1, 2005 Deep amber brown with a thin, bubbled creamy tan head. Wondrous aroma - rye and hops are a no shit, but weíve got some caramelized pecans, pine sap, chamomile and lilacs. Tingly, bitter and bright palate hit. Slippery caramel, brazed walnuts and shortbread pretzel cookies. Some oaken / cedar qualities as well, lending a smooth trait to the unique brew. A little syrupy. Caramel, toasted malts and single malt scotch carry true to the finish.

Founders have brewed a Hop Whompus Lite, and that isnít an insult. This beer hits you like a rose garden (sweet and sharp). The flavor has the backbone to carry the citrus assault. The caramel and grass leads to an acidic finish, where the tongue is left with a little dance. Lively, fresh and a direct hit on the nose and throat.

I like rye, and combined with a hopped up beer, you got a bold satisfying beer. Rye, full citrus mouthfeel and some lovely bitter aftertaste

bottle from bbb63, pours a red/gold color with a cream colored head that faded out almost immediately. aroma is strong, giving off large wafts of grassy hops and sweet rye. flavor is much like an ipa, but softer and not quite as sweet, as the rye is cleaner and crisper in the finish and aftertaste. a nice drinkable brew.

Pours with an amber body topped by a thin head with some lacing. Itís slighlty sweet and malty with a touch of caramel, some flowery notes and a touch of fruit. Medium bodied and smooth with a slight tingle.

Bottle. Brilliant red with a frothy, creamy head that lasted. Good lacing. Aromas of pine, hops and some fruit, Tastes similar to an IPA with the rye undertone. I prefer Founders Black Rye, but this is good.

UPDATED: AUG 20, 2007 I still have no idea what this "rye" stuff is all about. Just tastes like a good, really hoppy American pale. Good, but nothing great. I donít think iíd call it a strong ale either. There is a strong citrusy hop aroma but not so much in the flavor. There is a lot of carbonation but little head. RERATE: Really hoppy, even more than I remember. RE-RERATE. Still awesome. nice rye-spice, citrus hops, and an alcohol punch in the back of the head. re-re-rate. This must be super fresh because the grapefruit hop aroma and flavor is huge. god i love this beer.

UPDATED: APR 11, 2015 Glorious nose of sweet madarin oranges, marachino cherries, pineapple, cedar, and plums. A bit of a strong and bitter, burning mouth feel up front, a hint of a burnt malt flavor, but mostly this is similar to the aroma, though a little less fruity and with more of a scotch and wood flavor. A really excellent crafted beer, probably the best rye beer Iíve had. I hadnít been a fan of them because I havenít found one worth liking yet.
