Pours a spectacular crimson red with a creamy tan head. Brewed with four varieties of Belgian caramel malts imparting a sweet richness. Reds Rye is impressively balanced with its hop bitterness and floral bouquet achieved from the dry hop. In the finish, the generous amount of malted rye used accentuates a spicy crisp finish.

Bottled - winter seasonal. On tap - year-round.

Poured a cloudy reddish, copper out of the bottle. Full, lasting head and good amount of lacing. Strong aroma is of piney hops. Flavor consists of piney hops and spices (due, no doubt, to the rye). This full-bodied beer is slightly bitter, crisp and refreshing. Another great brew from Founders.

UPDATED: JUL 23, 2006 Re-rate, thanks to a six pack purchased for me by Artusory. Pours clear red with lots of floating particles and a thick, dense off-white head. Aroma of floral, citric pacific NW hops and rye. Flavor is very bitter but in the most pleasant way. Has notes of grapefruit/citrus, pine, resin, caramel, toasted malt, perhaps some munich malt and pepper. Lingering bitter finish. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Great stuff.

Dark red/burnt copper with clinging white lace - woody aroma, with pungent hops and background of freshly brewed tea and herbs - very hoppy and grainy - like a very malty IPA - herbs and grassiness - a solid ale no matter how you slice it (whatever that means).

For its type, I suppose it is what it claims to be, but I just didnít care for it at all. Very dry and bitter, seemed to overpower any of the malts that may have been trying to emerge.

Amazing ruby color! Medium head, some big bubbles. Nice hop aroma. Sweet caramel malt medley melds with floral hop flavors, leading into a moderately bitter, dry, satisfying finish. Bittersweet hops and toasty malt aftertaste flavors linger on pleasantly. Very smooth mouthfeel and well balanced for a nearly 7% brew. Another fine brew from Founder’s - probably my favorite overall American brewery. 12 oz. bottles available at Julio’s, Westboro MA.

Just starting getting into "rye" beers. One of my favorites so far. Balanced malts with spicy tones makes for a good mouth feel. Somewhat to crisp for me, otherwise when this beer warms slightly the full flavor is awesome. Highly reccomended.

Heavy fogged over bottle brown with a scarlet glow. Big, yellow cigarette stained cap of foam. Resides down slowly to a slim mushroom cap and the lacing is amazing with tons sticky snowflake sheeting. Solid hoppy aroma of raw, fresh, green, floral hop cones. Leafy with a grapefruit mush and floral sweetness twisted in with airy pine. Tilted towards a pungent edgeyness and floating behind it is a welcome toasty breadyness. Toasty and hoppy flavors build and place all sorts of fun intricacies within a toasty rye bread caked with torn and tatteredly taken from the vine, hop cones. Great little slips of lightly souring bitterness revealing parched white grapefruit, leafyness abounds, bits of pine tar, and fine tuned dryness carrying into the finish with a caring of character. Subtle grassy spice, mint, and smoked leafyness engages some areas of the finish as it evolves. Slippery, yet set with a bold rich intensity in a medium body feel with very controlled toasty tones and heavy hop handedness. Fluffy textured with hops, smooth, warm, and toasty. Oh...and damn yummy! Another fine addition to the Founders family. Unbelievably delicious and drinakable. Enjoy.

ruby orange slightly cloudly color. nice creamy short tan head. sweet rye malt aroma and hop scent together. flavor is fresh grapefruit rind, hoppy bitterness. a little stone fruit flavor too. less rye malt in the flavor, but enough to keep that divergent balance.

Pours a five-finger light tan head that fades quickly leaving a good lace. Clear red/amber color. Hoppy/malty nose. Light carbonation and medium bodied. Starts hoppy and the hops dominate leaving a lingering bitter aftertaste. Expecting something a little more mellow. $1.75 for a 12oz bottle from Colonial Spirits, Acton, Ma.

12oz. bottle thanks to Mullman. Auburn color with a medium sized tan head. Nice big hoppy aroma with lots of grapefruit and a mildly sweet malt background. Flavor was similar, but the citrus hop flavor pretty much overwhelmed the maltiness. Still very good.
