The nose is very hoppy and citrus leaning. Tons of rye is also apparent. This is pretty much just bread and citrus. Taking a sip allows the flavor to follow suit appropriately. It is dry, bitter, floral, and citrusy. Hints are made at biscuits, rye, pine, and grapefruit. This is very well done with a very distinct focus on rye. mtjoseph (36), Murderapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 13, 2009 Bottle. Pours a deeply hazy amberish/reddish/orange color. Almost what one would assume Joan’s vag from ’Mad Men’ would look like. Nice. Numerous amounts of sediment freely floating around the glass. Notes of citrus and spices on the nose. A somewhat surprisingly crisp, hop characteristic is what followed on the palate. Wow. For a "red rye" beer, is it ever hoppy. Wasn’t expecting this. After having a few other beers from founders, and really only being impressed by the breakfast stout, I had fairly low expectations. However, I must say that my impression of founders has been raised after drinking this fine beer. I guess I should probably watch "Mad Men" now...... watson1977 (265), , Pennsylvania, USA
