COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pours a spectacular crimson red with a creamy tan head. Brewed with four varieties of Belgian caramel malts imparting a sweet richness. Reds Rye is impressively balanced with its hop bitterness and floral bouquet achieved from the dry hop. In the finish, the generous amount of malted rye used accentuates a spicy crisp finish.

Aromas of white grape skin, peach skin, somewhat resinous spice, damp moss, & subtle malt. The flavours are deliciously fresh -- lemon zest, spicy rye, hints of nutmeg, lots of berry, ending with a good malt backbone. Medium bodied, with a dry and spicy lasting finish, this is a favourite.

Right off the bat I have to say that this is one of the most beautiful looking beers I’ve ever had in terms of color. Just as the commercial description says, it’s a spectacular crimson/golden caramel color with a wonderful straw colored head. The aroma has a lot going on. With tropical fruit (pineapple) and woodsy pine from the hops and a distinct caramel presence. One might also pickup butterscotch and a hint of bubblegum. The taste is just as complex. There is a nice malt sweetness and resinous pine and grapefruit hop bite with the peppery pop of the rye. The bitterness lingers in the aftertaste. Red’s Rye is challenging and delicious. This is not a session brew but would pair well with a juicy bacon bleu cheese burger or anything with a slightly sweet/ acidic tomato sauce. I also wouldn’t be surprised if it balanced out something very sweet like a pecan pie quite nicely.

First taste of Reds Rye was out of a bottle and was so-so. Had fresh from Founders and was pleasantly surprised. Very citrusy with nice malt balance. Hops come through nicely in this one. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a deep copper from the bottle with thin off-white head that dissipates to leave light rings of lace. Aroma of subtle piney hops, a sweet caramel malt base, and an overlying rye spice. Taste follows with a bitter finish and a sticky mouth feel. Solid stuff.

Redish orange pour. Sweet hops. Malt finish. Not impressed. Did taste like its an old bottle. Wont know because founders stopped dating their bottles for some dumb reason.

March 28, 2013 - on tap at brewery. Brownish red pour with limited head. Aroma was malty and peppery rye. Taste was consistent with aroma and had a piney bitter finish. Thin to medium bodied and some carbonation.
