Commercial Description:
Pours a spectacular crimson red with a creamy tan head. Brewed with four varieties of Belgian caramel malts imparting a sweet richness. Reds Rye is impressively balanced with its hop bitterness and floral bouquet achieved from the dry hop. In the finish, the generous amount of malted rye used accentuates a spicy crisp finish.

[Re-rate 3/22/08] Gorgeous brownish red pour, some small bubbles, and the largest creamiest beige fluffy head ever (bigger and thicker than most rootbeer floats - 54F). Lots of yeast settles at the bottom once the head dissipates. Very pungent malted rye aroma, slightly vinous and sweet with a touch of hops. Palate is great for the amount of malts, not overly sticky and the carbonation isnt annoying, however its a little thin. Slightly vinous from the rye with some great crisp bitter hops. Lots of yeast in the finish. The malted rye really adds a mellowing characteristic, that is no-doubt more noticeable from the past 5 months of aging. I don’t know if its better now, but it is quite different. Probably oxidized a bit, which isn’t really a bad thing with this rye beer... especially if you like rye whiskey.

Sampler from bottle at Clifton Beer Fest at Fries Cafe. Reddish color, fine rich flavor with good hop and malt balance and the rye flavor being especially nice. A beer of quality and distinction.

Thanks dra19. Pours a ruby red with a one finger off white fizzy head. The aroma is very tart and sweet, rye is very obvious, mandarin oranges, hoppy, sweet citrus. The flavor is sweet, a little waxy, hoppy, citrusy, a bit of alcohol, rye, oranges. Dry well carbonated palate and a nice finish. A very very nice beer.

Poured a dark amber color with minimal white head. Aroma was dominated by the hops... not much else there. The taste was a little less hoppy, but not much. Mostly that, and a little malt and rye. Not one I’d probably get again.

12 oz. bottle. Deep, opaque amber pour, foamy off-white head. Nice lace. Should have been more careful with my pour, lots of yeast in my glass. Hops and some malt on the nose. Nice hops and malt presence in the flavor, but the malt takes the stage. The rye malt adds some nice depth to this one. Full velvety mouthfeel. Smooth slightly bitter finish. Very enjoyable.

bottle. pours a reddish amber with a thin white head that takes its time moving to the edges, where it sticks around, leaving a bit of lacing. pretty big nose with grassy hops mixing with grapefruit and orange notes, and even a bit of floral hops and the occasional suggestion of spices and hint of rye malt. taste is very similar, but with the grassy hops toned down to almost nothing, and with the malt coming out more. finishes quite dry, with big bitterness that lingers and tingles enjoyably, making up for the slightly filmy mouthfeel. lots of carbonation, and the bubbles help with the tongue tingling sensation. quite an enjoyable and interesting beer.

Pours a slightly cloudy, almost glowing red color with a thick, frothy, fairly well-retined tan head. Some nice lacing is left on the sides of the glass. Unique aroma of dry hops, mild spices, and some caramel malts that balance it out a bit. The taste is definitely quite hoppy with a profound bitterness, but it suited this beer. Not unpleasant at all. The malted rye is definitely noticeable too, as it has some grainy qualitites about it. The finish was long and flavorful as the hop bitterness lingered in the aftertaste. Quality brew.
