COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pours a spectacular crimson red with a creamy tan head. Brewed with four varieties of Belgian caramel malts imparting a sweet richness. Reds Rye is impressively balanced with its hop bitterness and floral bouquet achieved from the dry hop. In the finish, the generous amount of malted rye used accentuates a spicy crisp finish.

Bursting with flavors. Citrus grapefruit, dark caramel rye malts, perfectly balanced with a lingering hop aftertaste that begs you to take another drink.

On tap at Piper’s Pub. Medium hop aroma. Resin and pine with bit of citrus and grassy character. Light carbonic gaseousness and a bit of malt sweetness. Medium dark amber clear with foamy off-white lacing head. Heavy watery body with high carbonation and fizzy burn. Starts with light malt sweetness, mostly bitter with good resinous notes. Grassy herbal hop notes, a bit of caramel and brown sugar. Light taste of rye. Bitter finish but smoothes out nicely. Good hoppy ale.

12oz Bottle: Pours dark amber (almost brown) w/ a ridiculously huge biege head which took a few minutes to recede, leaving a cool little pattern of lacing behind. Has a sort of odd bready aroma w/ a touch of toasted maltiness, a bit of caramel & some light hops. Finishes kind of bitter. Very smooth mouthfeel. My only complaint is the over the top carbonation. **I have no idea how long this bottle has been sitting around, maybe a year...

Pale amber color with a fluffy white head that settles quickly to leave decent lacing. Aroma is of freshly baked pumpernickel bread. Flavor has a broad combination of light brwon spices with a background of yeast and pine. Medium body. A nice example of the style, rye flavors really shine through.

A: A beautiful copper red color with a nice one finger head that settles nicely. No lace. S: Hop aromas are a bit more muted on draft than from the bottle. There is still a nice dose of hops though with hints of pine and spicey rye. T: Nice balance of biscuit malt and hops. The hops are mostly pine with hints of spice from the rye. M: Medium in body fairly dry throughout

12 oz. bottle. Pours a brown-red, vermillion, with grayish head. Aroma is hoppy, resiny and floral. A taste reveals the hoppiness is underlied with roast malt, but hops stay on the finish. Spices detectable. Damn good.

UPDATED: JAN 29, 2010 12 oz. into tulip. Pours a deep orange/amber, cloudy with light head mostly diminishing. Aroma of caramel malts, hint of rye - just a bit different nose feel. Okay, the taste - wow it is well balanced then the dry, bitter back-end hits you - I like it - actually by the 5th sip or so I love it! Interesting offering from Founders and deserving of its status - quite a unique and awesome brew. Yes, the rye will smack you on the backside - Cheers!
