Had a sweetness when it hit my palate with a little bitterness in the finish. johnadam2002 (529), Hainesport, New Jersey, USA

Aroma of hops, wheat, sweet malt, and fruit. Complex. Taste started off with a light hop bitterness with fruit hints. Finished sweet. Well balanced. redlem (1155), Illinois, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jun 19, 2007 Updated: Mar 15, 2009This was a surprise. The old guy with glasses just staring at you daring you to drink this and you thinking " what you got geezer!" What he’s got lurking in this small bottle is a world of complexity just waiting to put a boot upside your head. Unlike the black the rye is a focus in this and all its wonderful spiciness can come out and blend well with the rich caramel malts. The hops only add to the richness, never do they compromise the balance. The mouthfeel is full and chewy with a lingering aftertaste. Nice. riversideAK (2670), Shoreline, Washington, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 15, 2007 Aroma of toffee, chocolate, and grapefruit. Pours auburn, hazy, and with a light tan head that has settled into a creamy 1/8 of an inch. Flavor is mostly grapefruit hops followed by an ever so mild roasty sweet maltiness. Definitley dominated by the hops, this beer is pretty chewy and resiny, but still not too heavy of a body. Not too balanced, but I like hops, so that is good in my book. chicagobears (336), Elk Grove Village, Illinois, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 15, 2007 Pours a brownish red. Nice color accented with a beige fluffy head. The aroma is a extravaganza. Starts off with a big hop blast that gets rounded out with smooth malted rye.
After this I notice a dry spiciness that lingers. The rye is a unique blend that gives a long almost smoked finish. Love it. RedXIII (127), Powell, Ohio, USA

Dark coppery rust color with strong lacing down the glass. Taste similar to an IPA with strong citrus and floral notes throughout. Aroma is hoppy, but faint overall. The aftertaste and finish is malty and sour but not sharp, which separates it from IPAs. Session beer at its finest. mikeben (344), Naperville, Illinois, USA

I liked it’s coloring but not much else. Sorry to go against the grain. Certainly better then an Bud or a Miller though. lampeno420 (321), Zeeland, Michigan, USA
