I was really digging the whole package with this beer. Truly a delight to consume and sooo easy to enjoy. Founders is always suprising me with beers that I don’t know much about (since in California) so it’s like a little suprise each time I have a Founders I haven’t had.

The beer pours a dark garnet hue in my glass with a 1" off-white head. Tons of rye bread notes in the aroma with a heaping dose of fruity hops. Caramel malt also asserts itself in the nose. The rye sweetness is carried on in the flavor of the beer and it’s balanced nicely with the even-handed bittering hops. Also the toasted malt angle was really something I could dig into. Very nice.

Pretty solid beer. A unique combination of malt sweetness, spiciness, and just enough hops to satisfy a hophead. The overall impression is hop and spice aroma over the maltiness, with spice being in the forefront of flavor. It is relatively bitter, although not as much hop flavor comes through with the malt, rye, and spice. Very good. It reminds me of a smaller, session version of Bear Republic’s Hop Rod Rye.

A very solid red beer. The pour was clear deep amber with a very nice, fresh fruity hop aroma. The flavor was very nice with caramel malts, and fresh floral hops and some spice from the rye. A pretty balanced, medium bodied beer, that finished smooth with tremendous flavor hops. A nice surprise and definitely a beer that I will buy again.

Pours ruby red with a tan head. Smells breaddy with some spicy rye notes. Tastes earthy with some breaddy hints and a nice rye sweetness on the finish.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass This is a very interesting and complex beer brewed with difficult grain. Everyone should try this. It has great hoppy characteristics furthered by the interesting characteristics you can really only find in rye beers. Try it out!

12oz. Bottle. Rich ruby red color with a soft white head. Nose is sharp with heavy amounts of rye and a subtle citrus quality. Would also say that it has an odd banana and clove like aroma that feels Belgian inspired. Flavor is heavy on caramel and rye malt with a decently biting bitter backbone. Has an average level of carbonation and a slightly resinous and sticky mouthfeel. Finishes with a dry, spicy note. Something about this one is a little off for me. Think it may just have a bit more rye in the grain bill than I’d prefer. If rye is your thing, this is your beer.

1/2 a shared 12oz. bottle. Pours a cloudy deep orangish brown with minimal head. Nose is sweet caramel and malts with some fresh bread accents. Taste is dark roasted notes of caramel and malt. Somewhat smooth and slightly sweet. Just a hint of rye flavor as well. Moderately dry finish and decent aftertaste. Nice Changeup!
