Commercial Description:
Pours a spectacular crimson red with a creamy tan head. Brewed with four varieties of Belgian caramel malts imparting a sweet richness. Reds Rye is impressively balanced with its hop bitterness and floral bouquet achieved from the dry hop. In the finish, the generous amount of malted rye used accentuates a spicy crisp finish.

Pours a lightly hazy ruby red amber with a large foamy/creamy off white lacing head. Great looking beer! Aroma is a bouquet of hops with orange, pine, floral notes, caramel and hints of rye. Flavor of citrus, caramel, grapefruit, piney, toffee, nice rye notes, dry and a very nice balance of hop bitterness and malty sweetness. One excellent beer!

Of course it pours amber, but thats just the beginning. Wonderful full on floral hoppy nose and a good amount of head retention. Taste is hoppy as well with a nice balance. On the sweet side but not enough for ir to matter much.

Draft at 2004 MBG Summer Festival. Small tan head with fine-small sized bubbles that were mostly lasting. Transparent, softly carbonated and a brown hue. Malty and rye aroma. Hoppy flavor from start to finish. Tingly and hoppy mouthfeel. Sparse lacing.

Bottle. Thanks to joeybgood for another! Pours a deep copper. Tiny tanned head. Aroma is rich , oily hops, light sweetness, faint rye, and pine needles. Taste is big hops, pine, light citrus, rye, maple-like sweetness, and creamy malts. Excellent! Body is oily with moderate carbonation and a medium feel. Obvious lingering bitterness. Finishes with more big hoppiness, pine, light citrus, creamy malts and brown sugar. Totally different than I expected and a really nice surprise!

Discount Liquors, Milwaukee, WI., 12 oz bottle. Still trying to figure out rye beers - but if they all taste like this keep making ’em! Pours a dark copper color with an everlasting off-white colored head which lasts all day and thick creamy lacing. Fresh floral aroma with sweet nectarine hints. Delectable flavor which has the usual grapefruity hoppiness, but subdued, mellowed and rounded to a syrupy sweet concoction. Hints of caramel and mint make their appearance to make a weel rounded IPA. Creamy smooth mouthfeel, leaves you thirsting for more. Excellent American Strong Ale (or Rye!).

12 oz bottle. poured a hazy reddish-orange color. Head was bubbly and off white/orange with good retention and lacing. Malty aroma with molasses and toasted bread. There was also a bit of dried fruit. Dry on the tongue with a bit too much carbonation. Well balanced flowery hop and toasted bread malt flavors. Good, not great.

12 oz bottle via trade with Moejuck, I think its been a while. I’ve been looking forward to this since I had Black Rye a while back. Pours a deep amaber with a nice thick tan head. The nose is quite malty with a strong vibe. The taste is malty and hoppy with a spicy edge, that could be the rye. This is tasty, another gem from Founders, I love their beer.

Bottle. Pours a nice rich red/amber color. Great malt, rye, hops and some honey combine for a super nose. Flavor is smooth and has a great balance between malt and hops. The rye keeps things interesting. Very nice beer.
