Dry rye comes in at the back and matches the hops. I almost want to complain that the rye covers up some of the hop flavor, but that’s what a true IPA would be for. This isn’t that beer, and it’s not supposed to be. Probably one of the best uses of rye I’ve found. I want some more bitterness in there, but am somewhat curious if it’s not there, but covered up by the rye. The nice caramel malt of a red ale is there, but gets forgotten amongst everything else. Nice flavors, nice range of flavors, nice craftsmanship. Nice beer.

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 6, 2010 Bottled. A darker red with a smaller tan head. Aroma is caramel but overly floral and fruity (peach); pungent and impressive. Flavor accents this floral bombshell with big spices and tons of rye. Biting, tight, crisp and beautiful. Booze is present but mild. A beer that really made my night. I’ve finished the brew but I can’t stop smelling the bottle... I might take it to bed with me! deyholla (786), Bloomington, Indiana, USA

Aroma has strong pine notes with a hint of rye and a touch of citrus. Flavor starts with a strong pine note and a strong presence of rye. The finish is more just pine based with a bit of sweet malt and rye. phaleslu (592), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 2, 2010 12 oz. bottle from The Party Source. Pours a cloudy red-orange color with a creamy off-white head that leaves even lacing in the glass. Aroma of rye, malts, grapefruit citrus, dry hops, and floral notes. The hops pop a little more as it warms and gets lower. Flavor is heavier on the rye and caramel malts, with dry, bitter hops, grapefruit, bread, and pepper. Dry, malty mouthfeel and medium body. Dry finish of rye and bitter hops. Smooth, with low carbonation. Cool beer. hatchattack (34), Virginia, USA

Appearance: clear amber red look with large fine creamy head. Nose: superb freshness found in it. Quality blend of hops with brown malt with soft character of rye. Flavor/Palate : fontal woody bitterness with fresh leafy top. Toffee behind., crystal malt . Finishing bit peppery. Some carbonation dryness helps with frontal heavy hop. Clean mature formula. Gem of a brew.

I’m going to have this again, and see if I can detect the rye more, but right now, one of the best ways to deliver delicious hop flavor into your gullet - and balanced well with sweetness, too.
