Couple small rings of lace. Fresh hops aromas of grapefruit flesh and orange rinds. A true hops head aroma. But as it warms some malt goodness is detected in the nose. Hops juice from the start. with fresh pine and mild citrus. Lots of malt sweetness to back this up, but not real strong. Some caramel and pale malt flavors. Finishes with a touch of acidity from the hops that seems to cleanse the palate. Enough slickness that you can feel the rye. For some reason I am back on the hops wagon and this one is carrying me to the hops field of dream. Finish with a floor malt taste that went well with the mexican food tonight. The mix with the red peppers is awesome. this is only my fourth or fifth brew from the brewery, but I will be in search for more! Dickinsonbeer (3623), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA

Pours a hazy deep orange with a sticky beige head and awesome lace. Aroma is thick and pungeant with tons of hops and sticky sweet caramel malts. Flavor is citrus, orange, grapefruit, and lots of caramel, toffee, pine and a great sharp bitterness. Damn good mouthfeel- smooht thick full with a great bitterness. Fresh hops all the way through. Spicy rye, caramel malt, fig, and cinnamon aroma. Nice toasty, warm and spicy malt qualities marry nicely with the hop varieties. Great aftertaste and medium, palatable texture. This is like Arrogant Bastard with refinement. I dig it. Brodie (540), Blowing Rock, North Carolina, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 9, 2004 Huge citrus hop aroma, lots of grapefruit. Nice red color, decent tan head. Great balance to the flavor, big hops, lots of caramel and toast in the malt aspect, unique spiciness from the rye. Solid bitterness. Medium-full body, very smooth. Hoppiness and bitterness is like an IPA, but with a really nice malt component to balance it out. presario (3010), Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Potent, hoppy aroma, citrus/grapefruit and very crisp. Very hoppy flavor, with a slight sweetness -more true to an IPA style. The finish has a crisp, grapefruity and well-defined sharpness. notalush (2699), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 10, 2005 Dark red/burnt copper with clinging white lace - woody aroma, with pungent hops and background of freshly brewed tea and herbs - very hoppy and grainy - like a very malty IPA - herbs and grassiness - a solid ale no matter how you slice it (whatever that means). | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 5, 2005 Just had the blackrye ale, so now its time for the red I figure. Color is a deep red and a thin head on top. Aroma is like an IPA, strong citrus and floral notes. Flavor is a good blend of sweet malt caramel flavor and hop bitterness. The palate leans more towards the strong bite side at the end, but begins more tame. Another quality brew by founders. I expect the IPA to be just as tastey now.
