COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pours a spectacular crimson red with a creamy tan head. Brewed with four varieties of Belgian caramel malts imparting a sweet richness. Reds Rye is impressively balanced with its hop bitterness and floral bouquet achieved from the dry hop. In the finish, the generous amount of malted rye used accentuates a spicy crisp finish.

Bottled - winter seasonal. On tap - year-round.

Note: Formerly Redís Rye P.A.

12oz Bottle. The pour was a murky medium reddish brown with an average (1-2 finger) light cream colored pillowy head that had good retention and excellent sheeting of sticky lacing. The aroma was of a dark bread malt, floral hops and a sweaty yeast with notes of caramel, citrus (grapefruit), rye and a mild sweet fruity ester. The taste was a malty bitter-sweet with a hint of caramel from the onset, progressing into a bold hoppy citrus bitter with a touch of rye and a mild sweetness at the end. The flavor lasted an average time after the swallow with a slight citrus peel bitterness left lying on the taste buds. Mouthfeel was right between light and medium in body with a dry and slightly oily texture and a medium carbonation. Overall this brewer never seem to disappoint, this was a nice hoppy brew with a slight doughy sweetness and just the right touch of rye...

Poured from a growler. This dark copper beer could have used a bit more carbonation but had a lively hop presence dominated by herbal and spicy notes with a solid malt backbone. Aftertaste somewhat astringent but leaves me wanting another sip. Very slight sourness in the finish.

330ml bottle server in a Pint glass. A: Pours a beautiful amber color which is clear in the beginning but that becomes cloudy in the end. Some particles can be seen floating around. Forms a huge and big bubbled yellow head. Excellent retention and tons of soapy lacings formed and left in the glass S: Sweet, grainy and quite lemony in the nose. Strong notes of malts and rye. Brown sugar, orange peel with some peppery notes. Tropical fruits. Earthy yeasts T: Slightly sweet upfront. Strong notes of caramel malts and rye. Strong notes of citrus fruits (grapefruit, orange and lemon). Brown sugar. Spices: A bit peppery in the mouth too. Delicious 70 IBUs bitterness. Light notes of pine. Earthy yeasts in the very end M: Medium, smooth body. Good carbonation. Herbal and lemony aftertaste O: Excellent drinkability. Absolutely delicious PA. My 7th Founders which gets an above 4 evaluation. What else can I say about this brewery? [ BA Review @ 1/2/2014 ]

"dang...this is one aromatic and flavorful brew. canít say i like it more or less than the (also great) Centennial IPA, so i guess i gotta score em the same. huge bouquet of spicy and floral hops. the rye blends seamlessly with the flavor of the hops and slightly sweet malt. heavier than expected, and the alcohol was noticeable, but not at all overbearing. Founders continues to climb. Thanks Cory and/or John...not sure who this came from...but Iím glad Iíve got another!"

Elephant & Castle, Chicago, draft. Dark copper. Creamy off white head. A little nutty, a little malty. Very smooth with a little bitterness in the background. Very soft. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Copper pour with an off-white head. Aroma is spicy rye with notes of hops. Flavor is hop resin and earthy rye. Decent, I would have been ok with slightly more hop flavors but still decent as is.

Served on-tap at Alís of Hampden into a nonic pint.

A - Pours deep amber orange, with a few ruby undertones, with a nice pillow of one finger tall off-white head leaving thick rings of lacing down the glass.

S - Lots of strong citric hops up front mix well with the spicy rye and caramel malt core. Hard to tell if it is an IPA or a Rye beer. Very nice.

T - Plenty of strong citric hops dominate the start and linger long thru the finish. The lightly toasted caramel malt, biscuity rye, and dulled citric fruits offer some contrast to the strong hop presence as best they can. Finish is a mix of bready rye and hop bitterness, lingering for some time.

M - Medium-heavy body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Nice smooth feel with plenty of lingering rye and dulled hop bitterness in the finish.

D - Not too bad. I enjoyed this one but the overall bready feel really brought the drinkability down a few notches. I felt like I ate half a loaf of hoppy bread after only one glass.

The rye base alters this IPA in a fun way. Sits heavily rather than crispy to finish but starts with some fascinating palate of hoppiness and fruitiness. Not a "must drink" when on a menu but a must-try and well-crafted beer. On tap at Pizzeria Serio in Chicago. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap at Butcher and the Boar. Bumped pint glass. Copper/amber color with healthy amount of head. Iím not getting too much along the lines of aroma. Taste is targeet subdued with mostly malty characteristics. Really easy to drink. I can taste some of the rye notes almost laced with a hint of caramel. Friends have traditionally lumped this together with Two Brothers Cane and Abel as the strongest ryes on the market and this rendition meets those expectations. Some hop resin on the middle but finishes malty clean. This redhead appreciates Redís effort.

On tap poured into a shaker-like glass. The aroma is a roasty caramel with grapefruit citrus, bread crust, light biscuit and graham, and a touch of pepper. The beer is a clear caramel red color with a light brown head, a light web lace, a thin ring and a thin tail of a surface. Itís highly bitter with a medium sweetness. The waxy texture has a medium full body with an active, fuzzy carbonation. The finish is toast, caramel, some citrus, and a touch of resin - the rye isnít really that prevalent. The resin sticks around in the aftertaste with some pepper traces, but itís mostly clean.
