COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pours a spectacular crimson red with a creamy tan head. Brewed with four varieties of Belgian caramel malts imparting a sweet richness. Reds Rye is impressively balanced with its hop bitterness and floral bouquet achieved from the dry hop. In the finish, the generous amount of malted rye used accentuates a spicy crisp finish.

On tap at Stag’s Head in Manhattan. Pours a crystal clear amber with pure white head with slight lacing. Crisp farm raised grain with sweet malt from the fresh rye. Lots of flora and citrus explode on the aroma with orange as well. Taste is grapefruit and bitter finish on last half of palate.

Very nice rye pale ale. Slightly sweet, mostly malty rye hops with body. Nice linger, dry hop bitter.

UPDATED: FEB 2, 2012 In all fairness, I had a pretty bad cold when I drank this, so maybe I?ll try it again when the taste won?t be affected. Overall, though, this beer looked good - very deep red with a nice size beige head. This was my first experience with rye and I wasn?t a fan of the weird lingering aftertaste that this beer leaves. I?m normally a fan of most Founders drinks, but this one didn?t really work for me.

Out of the bottle it poured a cloudy pale amber. The head was a thick yellow resembling tapioca or pan cake batter. A sweet aroma with hints of honey. Very smooth in the mouth. Even balance of malt and hops.

Bottle. Nose of cotton candy and faint rose. Cloudy amber with loose creamy head. Tastes sweet and a hint of sour with a dry finish. Feels especially wet in the mouth followed by dry finish. Sounds silly, but it’s true.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled 1/3/2012. Pours slightly hazy reddish orange color with a nice 2 finger dense cream colored head with fantastic retention that reduces to a thick cap that lingers. Some nice lacing clings on the glass, with some nice carbonation streaming up. Aromas of big grapefruit, pine, caramel, spicy rye, biscuit, herbal, and floral hops. Fantastic aromas here, with great strength and balance. Taste of big grapefruit, spicy rye, pine, caramel, biscuit, orange, herbal hops, and a bit of toasted malt. Nice amount of bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, rye, biscuit, pine, and herbal on the finish for a while. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy and slightly silky mouthfeel. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming on the finish. Extremely drinkable and smooth at 6.6%. Overall this is an outstanding beer as I expected; plus it is quite fresh. Nice spiciness from the rye; very hoppy; nicely balanced; and very drinkable.

UPDATED: JAN 24, 2012 This was purchased for tasting at Whole Foods. The Founders Brewery has been very successful at producing great beers. The IPA poured a hazy cinnamon color with a frothy white head. The IBU at 70 produces a balanced medium body ale with pine nut taste. There is a piny bitterness that is unique and may also be due to the malted rye. The IPA has an average carbonation and great finish that sticks to the roof of your mouth.
