Commercial Description:
Pours a spectacular crimson red with a creamy tan head. Brewed with four varieties of Belgian caramel malts imparting a sweet richness. Reds Rye is impressively balanced with its hop bitterness and floral bouquet achieved from the dry hop. In the finish, the generous amount of malted rye used accentuates a spicy crisp finish.

12oz screwtop. This is the third Founders I have tasted and I have enjoyed everyone so far. Very unique taste to this one. Definitely taste the rye. Well done.

Bottle... Poured cloudy, reddish/amber with a thin, white head. Spiced aroma with ginger and warm, bready, grain notes. Full palate with big fruity flavors -- almost like berries -- with some hops and malts. Sweet candy finish almost like honey.

12oz shorty bottle. Unfiltered orange-brown color. Sweet, thick bitter aroma. Malty and rich, with a serious earthy hop profile. Some amber malt notes collide with the hops, almost peppery. Bitter finish. Quite a well done beer, rich, but balanced. Great.

Lathery head that sits atop the beer like a painted cloud. Smells distinctly of spicy hops, a classic compliment to rye, but the rye malt itself comes through well. Some bready yeastiness is present and there’s a verdant, fragrant character to the aroma as well. The flavor is wild. Rich with rye, backed up with hop spices, sweet yet uncompromisingly bitter. Some deep roasted malts come through alongisde a sublte nuttiness. Would be excellent did this beer not have an explosive amount of carbontion. Every sip bombards the mouth with foam. One fears they might gag on the swelling mass.

Sampled at Barley’s 7th Annual Mini Real Ale Fest. Clear amber color with a medium off-white head. Bready aroma with citrus and grassy hops. Citrus hop flavor up front with a bready back. Very good.

too bad i go strait to comparing this to Alpine Beer Company, local brewer, they make an i or iipa with a touch of rye in it. it is bigger and more of everything. super rare and keg only. the founders red rye, cool lable by the way, was a scaled back version. more of an everyday beer. and again if this was in CA it would not have much competition. best regular rye I’ve had.

Red orange with small white head. Aroma of grapefruit and lots of hops. I really noted a lot of bitterness in the taste which was similar to a pale ale but more IPA like. Decent, but underwhelming for the Founder’s brand.

12 oz. bottle from Sam’s Quik Shop. Pours reddish-orange with an off-white head. Aroma of grapefruit, light piney hops, and caramel sweetness. Bitter grapefruit flavor wtih a piney finish. Great balance of sweetness. More or less a pale ale but the rye gives for an interesting dimension not typically found in pale ales or IPAs. A wonderful beer.
