jkwalking05 (1483), Arlington, Texas, USA Jan 30, 2009 Deep copper color with a tan head and lingering brussels lace. Strong but nice floral smell. Flavor of rye and hops.
DrDavid (957), Johnson, Vermont, USA Jan 25, 2009 Bottle. Aroma of sweet pineapple. Hazy red body, creamy off-white head. What a wonderful beer! Flavor is pine and citrus, with some sweetness, fruits, and caramel. It all holds together remarkably well, and finishes with a mild bitterness. Super. Wish I could get this in the northeast all the time. JohnQPublic (387), Brooklyn, New York, USA Jan 24, 2009 Bottle into Sam Adams Lager glass. Pours a very hazy dark copper bordering on brown, with a nice, rocky off-white head that eventually fades into a creamy cap. Nose is floral, citrus and spicy pine notes, a bit of rye. Taste is sweet up front - lots of spicy rye, slightly toasty, rich, bit of caramel underneath the rye, with a spicy, resiny hop note that sits lightly on top of the malt without dominating, until it really comes out to shine right before the finish. Finish is long, lightly bitter, but with the spicy rye hanging around as well. Mouthfeel is creamy, just enough carbonation bite to let you know it’s there, medium-full body. Very nice beer. stefanje (937), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA Jan 24, 2009 12 oz bottle courtesy of mreusch. Pours a cloudy amber color with a big off-white head that had good retention and lacing. The aroma is somewhat mild with herbal hops, malted grains and berries. The flavor is superb with biter hops, orange peel, hazelnuts and malted barley. The finish is long and biter-sweet. The mouthfeel is smooth and full. Overall: This is one very impressive brew. It blew me away. Thanks Matt. nefarious (202), Clarkston, Michigan, USA Jan 21, 2009 Beautiful deep red pour!!! Good aroma of grains slight acidity and a touch of sweetness if that makes sense. great lacing on the glass as well. The flavor is so much like a pale ale or an IPA with the abvious touch of rye.........it kida like drinking the centennial IPA while dunking a peice of rye bread in it. Extremely drinkable. I am blown away by how good this beer looks with its lacing and color. SudsMcDuff (1691), was CapeTown,SA-now Houston, Texas, USA Jan 20, 2009 "have you been drinking?" .. "why yes I have, thank you" .... big stupid crazy head, almost to much in a strange way ...pours a orange colour .. nice bitterness level, pretty balanced .. alcohol sneaks in a tad .. my first beer with a black president... mattmc1973 (300), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA Jan 19, 2009 Had this at a beer tasting with my buddies on 11/30/08. Poured a red/copper with off-white head. Aroma of rye, hops, citrus, and malt. Quite a bite to it with the rye/hops scent and taste. Carbonated mouthfeel, and bitter. Not bad. jeff789 (359), Pennsylvania, USA Jan 18, 2009 Bottle erupted a bit as i opened it... Poured into an imperial pint glass so the giant head wouldnt overflow the glass... Left a spiderweb like lacing down the side of the glass... Aroma of sweet malts and big hops... Tastes of subdued hops, mild hops and very slight bits of rye... Medium bodied, but not the excellent beer i remember...
