00cobraR (1096), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA Nov 18, 2008 a damn fine brew. Pours out a cloudy reddish brown color with a nice amber head. aroma is very grainy with a good bit of hoppy resin to it. flavor is spicy with a big hop finish. a great brew. dm9831 (1167), Monee, Illinois, USA Nov 17, 2008 caramel colored, big rocky tan head, nice lacing. aroma of leather, malt, floral notes. medium bodied, dry finish. an enjoyable, if not refreshing brew. i got a 6-pack of this at ’liquor depot’ in monee. GodOfThunder (855), Orlando, Florida, USA Oct 31, 2008 Wow. A lot stronger on the hops than I was expecting. Pours a brown color with a small white head. Smell is hoppy and full of citrus. Taste is also very hoppy. Not a lot of red character to this at all and the rye really only comes at the back end with a little dryness. It is a good beer, but I kinda feel like it is false advertising. This is more like an IPA. TearsforBeers (171), Ohio, USA Oct 31, 2008 Much hoppier smell than I expected.
Appears a dull red-brown with a medium amount of white lacing.
Flavor is bitter and oily hops, with a bit a of rye and malt at the end.
Body is slightly on the thin side.
Overall, a good beer as usual from Founder’s, but not something I’ll seek out regularly in the future. mkobes (2103), paramus, New Jersey, USA Oct 31, 2008 Bottle. Reddish copper in color with a medium off white head that left a nice lacing on the glass. Malty caramel hoppy aroma. Grassy, earthy fruity hoppy notes. Malty, caramel rye floral hoppy flavor. Orange and grapefruit notes. Finish is spicy. Smooth tasting. Well balanced. Very drinkable. jhumphries69 (718), Tyrone, Georgia, USA Oct 29, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours a little hazy and deep amber/red with scarlet/ruby highlights and a medium-sized light tan head that leaves spiderweb-swaths of lace all over the glass. The aroma is beautiful, magical hops. Holy crap that smells good. There are malty notes, too - caramel and honey - but it is mostly about citrus, herbal, floral hops. The flavor follows the aroma - a very rich, floral hop flavor with some grainy, spicy rye and a lot of juicy fruit and caramel/toffee/bready/honey malts. At mid-palate, the bitterness is clean with a little bit of spicy/herbal character, and some citrus. The rye flavors are strong in the finish - which is somewhat dry and bittersweet with subtle chocolate notes accompanying caramel malts and citrus and floral hop bitterness. The mouthfeel has a medium-level of carbonation (somewhere between crisp and soft) with a surprisingly luxurious, creamy, smooth, full texture. Overall, a fantastic American Amber! BeerLS (20), Bensalem, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 29, 2008 Very hoppy, well balanced, malts, yeast, citrus and caramel. little bitter alcohol finish. extremely drinkable. Magjayran (1379), Durham, North Carolina, USA Oct 29, 2008 This one is a red type color with a Fluffy white head. Aroma is mostly grapefruit with a touch of rye. The rye contributes a ton of bitterness but there’s plenty of tasty pineapple and grapefruit hops in there to balance it out. I really enjoy this one and love having it around.
